Front stairwell clearance.

Mary Seacole House got in touch with me recently to ask me to price up clearing their over grown yard. Due to a few different reasons it had become neglected and well overgrown and was now unusable.

I’ve spoken in the past quite openly about how I’ve struggled with mental health and it’s one of the main reason I ended up gardening, so it seems only right I give something back by helping this mental health charity. I know the area well as I used to live around the corner for years, so good to help the community there.

Thanks also to Water Lane Farm in Tarbock who I use for all of my green waste, and took all of this for free as it was for charity.

Been on holiday with my family for the last week, visited Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean and found the ancient woodland so inspiring. So beautiful and impossible to replicate, but can definitely take inspiration from it when looking at our outdoor spaces and gardens. So calming, peaceful and cool in the recent heat.

A longer look at the before and after from yesterday.

This is a new bed I added to a regular clients garden this week. It’s a large drive with more than enough space to turn around, so the client wanted to soften it. As this matures it will shield the view of the cars from the rest of the garden as well as making a nice entrance from the drive.

The ground works on this were much more than expected as the base for the drive was really well built, so after a lot of hard digging and incorporating new soil and compost but we got there.

The turf ended up getting laid a day later than planned so doesn’t look the best, if it doesn’t take for any reason (it being so hot this week) I’ll replace it for the client.

Looks brilliant so far and will get better as it all matures. Follow along to see a deeper look at the bed tomorrow.

For years I never really liked roses, but I’ve learned it’s not roses, it’s traditional rose beds that I don’t like.

A bed of just roses is just some sticks with roses on the top. Boring and often a bit ugly. Mix them in with beautiful perennials and ornamental grasses for a much fuller more modern look.

(Excuse the sweat, it’s was a bloody hot day)
