What do you think of using two colour tones on the fencing?
🤔.

The finish is water based decking oil I get from Ron and Kacper Paints for Wood Paints For Wood.

Still a fair bit to do but I’m (slowly) getting there 💪.

I’d like to talk about wood finishes for a minute or two so please stick with me on this one. And it is based at DIY folk mainly, but professionals can listen in as well😀.

This is my ‘go to’ outdoor finish from Rob and Kacper Paints for Wood / Paints For Wood . On my YouTube channel I tested a variety of outdoor finishes for over 18 months and this one comes out on top. It comes in a variety of stain colours, is water based so very easy to apply, a little goes a long way and it is very reasonably priced.

These guys who supply it are experts in this field and have years of experience to advise accordingly.

So why do most DIY folk go to the likes of B&Q to buy their wood finishes?

I think it’s similar with Timber Yards where people will happily go to their DIY store and buy banana wood, but won’t go to a timber yard, get the correct advice and buy a far better quality timber likely to be cheaper?

The only answer I can conclude with this is ‘fear’.

I think a lot of folk are scared of making a tit of themselves in a professional environment, but will happily go to a DIY store and ask someone who is stacking the shelves what product they should use to paint their wood panels with. It just doesn’t make sense🤷‍♂️.

If you broke your arm, would you go to hospital or St John’s Ambulance?

If you’re in the market for a top quality wood finish for whatever project is you’ve got coming up, speak to Rob and Kacper, no job too small so to speak. They offer great advice, in this instance they put me onto this water based deck oil and now I won’t use any other finish outdoors. If you want an inferior product, likely to cost more and maybe unsuitable for what you’re doing, then yes visit your local DIY store.

To me it’s a no brainer ❤️

Project DIY Fencing coming along nicely. Fixed these timber uprights to the concrete posts using CT1 Power Grab and Bond, great stuff. Also fixed some concrete screws for a ‘belt and braces’ approach👍.

Tanalised battens next treated with my go to outdoor wood finish. Watch this space 👀and the whole build will be featuring on my YouTube channel 😀👍.

HOW WOULD YOU DO IT? 🤔

I’m after advice on this dilemma. I’ve been asked to fix this backrest on a wooden bar stool. As you can see if you flick through the pictures it has two completely different types of joints that have snapped, one at an angle with a clean line, the other much more complicated.

Another issue being the curvature of the backrest meaning even more difficult clamping than normal.

It has to be sturdy as, quite obviously, if it isn’t repaired properly it poses quite a dangerous situation with someone falling back through the gap if it snaps.

I appreciate there isn’t a simple solution to this situation and would appreciate any advice you can offer.

If you look through all of the pictures it gives you a clearer idea of the problems I’m facing.

I’m always grateful for the incredible support I receive on here and once again thank you once again if you can offer any assistance. Cheers, Leo 🙏🙏

FINALLY FOUND What I’m Looking For! NEW APRON I picked up from https://leathershire.co.uk

Honestly I have been looking for so long for a quality apron. As you may known I’ve worn an apron since I started woodworking to keep my bad arm well out of the way from machinery and also to have my essential accessories to ‘hand’ to help me with my craft.

It is so well made and the quality of the material used is 👌👌. Also I picked this up in one of their sales so if you’re looking for one and are also looking for a bargain I’d head over to their website now!

Looks like a UK independent business as well and you well know I like to support small businesses as well😀

Got tbe feeling this is going to last me for a very long time 👌😀
