Innovation doesn't start on the shelf. It starts behind the counter. ✨

Independent merchants are often the first to introduce installers to new products, but they need the right support from manufacturers to do it with confidence.

As IPG member Jason Drake, Director of Mech-Elec Wholesale LTD explains, investing in merchant education and product knowledge doesn't just benefit merchants, it helps new innovations reach the people who'll use them.

Do you think manufacturers should be doing more to support independent merchants?

Small but mighty. 💪

As the only independent plumbing and heating merchant within a 30–40 mile radius, Powys Plumbing and Heating Supplies Ltd is putting local tradespeople and homeowners first.

Founded by Mark and Samantha Shelley in Machynlleth, this family-run business is combining decades of industry experience with personal service, expert advice and a real commitment to its local community.

Now, as a member of The IPG, they’re combining that independence with the buying power and support of a wider network.

This World Mental Health Day, let’s remember that the pressures people carry aren’t always visible. 💙

Mental health affects us all and it remains an important issue across our industry.

In On The Tools TradeBrain H2 2025 survey of UK plumbing and heating professionals, 47% said stress and difficulty switching off was a concern, while 31.3% highlighted mental health and low mood.

A quick check-in, a conversation or simply listening can make a difference.

Let’s keep looking out for each other, today and every day.

Being a successful independent merchant means meeting customers wherever they choose to shop.

Paul Jacobs from Bathology Ltd explains why taking a multi-channel approach is becoming increasingly important, from growing the plumbing side of the business to building a stronger online presence. 🌐

Through The IPG, members can benefit from website support to create a professional online presence that helps them compete with larger businesses.
