MARTYN'S LAW – IF YOU RUN A PUBLIC VENUE IN SUSSEX, THIS IS WORTH READING.

We've been looking into Martyn's Law recently, particularly what it could mean for local businesses, visitor attractions and venues across Sussex.

And it's something we think more businesses should be aware of.

Martyn's Law, officially the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, was introduced following the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017.

It's about making sure certain public venues are better prepared to protect people if the worst should happen.

So, does it affect your business?

If you run a zoo, visitor attraction, leisure centre, hotel, entertainment venue or similar premises, you may fall within its scope.

The legislation has two main levels:

200–799 people: Qualifying premises fall within the standard tier, focusing on emergency procedures, evacuation, lockdown and communication.

800 or more people: Qualifying larger premises and events have additional security responsibilities, which may include CCTV and other protective measures where appropriate.

These numbers include staff and refer to people reasonably expected on site at the same time, not total visitors throughout the day.

And what about CCTV?

CCTV isn't automatically compulsory under Martyn's Law. But for larger venues, a properly designed system could be a valuable part of wider security arrangements.

Knowing who's entering your site, being able to monitor public areas and having clear footage available when needed can make a real difference to everyday site security.

As CCTV installers, we're always saying the same thing: it's not about putting cameras everywhere. It's about putting the right cameras in the right places.

Whether you're managing a visitor attraction in Chichester, a leisure facility in Worthing, a hotel in Arundel or a larger site around Horsham or Littlehampton, it's worth reviewing what you already have.

The legislation is expected to come into force in spring 2027, so there's time to understand what may apply to your premises.

Do you really need to rip out all your network cabling and start again?

That’s actually a really good question β€” and the answer is not always.
When we first opened this cabinet, we didn’t just start pulling cables out because it looked a mess.
We traced it first.
We tested it.
We worked out what went where.
We mapped the network.
Only then could we decide what was worth keeping and what genuinely needed to come out.
On this particular job, once we knew exactly what we were dealing with, a proper strip-out and rebuild made sense.
Another question people ask is: β€œHow do I know if my business network cabling needs upgrading?”
Messy cables alone don’t necessarily mean you need a new network. But unidentified cabling, old additions nobody understands, faults that are difficult to trace, lack of capacity, poor labelling or equipment that has just been added over the years are all good reasons to get it properly looked at. Current industry guidance makes the same point: trace and assess first; only replace what actually needs replacing.
And yes β€” we can work out what’s live before we start disconnecting things. That’s exactly why Stage 1 of this job was network mapping and cable tracing
This one still isn’t completely finished yet β€” final cable management, labelling and testing still to come.
But it’s already a very different network.
We carry out network mapping, cable tracing, network cabinet rebuilds and structured network cabling across West Sussex.
If you’ve inherited a cabinet and nobody really knows what goes where, send us a message. We’ll work out what you’ve actually got before anyone starts ripping it apart.

We mapped it. Then we ripped it out.
Stage 1 was tracing, testing and working out exactly where everything went.
Stage 2… strip it back and rebuild it.
Old cabling out.
Clean start going back in.
Still not 100% finished β€” there’s more dressing, labelling and testing to come.

From Sussex to Wales… bringing a little WiFi magic to the valleys!

We started work at 7.30am in Sussex, popped in to see Connor working his magic with some precision fibre optic fusion splicing β€” proper skilled work that takes a steady hand, technical know-how and real attention to detail. Connor certainly knows his stuff!

And now, we've ended up in Wales!

Not a bad change of scenery!

We're now spending the next seven days bringing some WiFi magic to the Welsh valleys, doing what we do best β€” getting properties connected and making sure WiFi reaches where it's actually needed.

Different locations, different challenges, same Wire Wizards.

From expert fibre optic splicing in Sussex to WiFi installations in Wales β€” never a dull day!

Not every CCTV installation is one we can show you.

We've recently been working on a CCTV installation for a VIP client where privacy was particularly important.

It's a reminder that CCTV isn't just about fitting cameras. It's about understanding the property, the security requirements and the people you're working for.

At Wire Wizards, we install CCTV and security camera systems for homes and businesses across West Sussex and East Sussex.

If you're considering CCTV for your property, get in touch and tell us what you need protecting.

We're on a CCTV installation for a VIP client, but there's one thing we can't show you β€” where we are.

What we CAN show you are the wheels of some seriously expensive cars.

So here's the challenge. Can you name the makes and models?

We're Wire Wizards, installing CCTV and security camera systems for homes and businesses across Sussex.

Would you expect one warehouse to need 32 CCTV cameras?
This one does.

On a working warehouse and haulage site, CCTV isn't simply about putting a camera at each end of the building.
You need useful views of aisles, stock areas, entrances, loading areas, vehicle movements and the places where incidents are most likely to need reviewing afterwards.
We're installing 32 cameras, with modern 4K coverage replacing older lower-resolution CCTV.
If you operate a warehouse, haulage yard or commercial premises in West Sussex and your existing CCTV no longer gives you the coverage or detail you need, send Wire Wizards a message.
Commercial CCTV β€’ Warehouse CCTV β€’

06/10/2026

Why would one warehouse need 32 CCTV cameras?
Because simply having cameras somewhere in the building isn't enough.
A large working warehouse needs proper coverage of aisles, stock areas, entrances, loading areas, vehicle movements and working spaces.
This commercial system has 32 live camera feeds, and we're also comparing older 720p footage with modern 4K CCTV.
Proper commercial CCTV isn't about installing as many cameras as possible. It's about making sure the areas that matter are actually covered and the recorded footage is useful when it's needed.
Wire Wizards installs commercial CCTV for warehouses, haulage sites and businesses across West Sussex.
