Test it before it tests you. 🔥

The 1 October insurance deadline may have passed, but it is still not too late to protect your static caravan or lodge from winter damage. ❄️

A proper winter close-down is about more than simply turning off the water. It should include:

✅ Draining every water line
✅ Dealing with traps, where frost damage can lead to costly claims
✅ Protecting external pipework and outdoor taps from frost damage
✅ A heating service while the van is still in use
✅ A gas safety check by a qualified Gas Safe engineer

🔧 Today’s boiler replacement came with a few challenges!

The customer’s ageing boiler was causing constant problems, and the existing pipework needed sorting out.

The cupboard had been built around the original boiler, so removing it meant taking off the door and door frame first. The new flue position also needed adapting with two elbows to connect to the roof outlet.

A new Ariston boiler fitted, pipework reworked for a much tidier finish, and a new wireless room thermostat installed for added comfort and ease of use—allowing the customer to control the heating from anywhere in the property. 👌

As the cold arrives on Thursday 8 October, it is worth being clear about what a professional drain-down should involve.

Simply turning off the water and opening a tap does not remove all the water from a static caravan or lodge. Residual water left in pipework, toilets and traps can freeze, expand and split components during the winter.

A proper drain-down covers:

✓ Draining every water line properly
✓ Dealing with residual water in toilets, traps and fittings
✓ Blowing through the pipework to remove trapped water
✓ Checking the system has been left safely for the closed season
