It’s been a busy few days here at Planet Pest Control, which is why we’ve been a little quiet on social media lately 👀

Behind the scenes, the team has been flat out across Nottingham, Derby and surrounding areas helping customers with a wide range of pest issues.

🐕 Bed Bug Detection Dog Success Stories 🐕

Our canine team recently attended a property where the homeowner had already undergone multiple bed bug treatments but still lacked confidence that the issue had been resolved.

After a full inspection of the property, our detection dog gave no indications of live bed bug activity. The client was able to move forward with peace of mind and has reported no further issues since.

In a separate case, we were called to a hotel following a guest complaint of bites. A previous visual inspection by another company had found no evidence of bed bugs, but concerns remained.

Our bed bug detection dog screened the affected rooms and gave multiple indications. Further inspection by our technician confirmed evidence of bed bug activity, allowing treatment to be carried out quickly and the affected rooms returned to service as soon as possible.

Rodent control isn’t just about baiting and trapping.

It’s about stopping them getting in in the first place.

During a recent inspection in Nottinghamshire, we identified damaged mortar and gaps around the base of an external wall that could potentially provide access into the property.

Many rodent issues begin with small defects that often go unnoticed:

• Damaged brickwork
• Gaps around pipework
• Missing air brick covers
• Damaged vents
• Poorly fitting doors

Once access has been gained, rodents can quickly establish themselves within loft spaces, wall voids and under floor areas.

One of the most effective long-term solutions is proper proofing work combined with an integrated pest management approach.

Did you know?

A mouse only needs a gap of around 6mm to gain access to a property – roughly the width of a pencil!

Many rodent infestations start through surprisingly small gaps around:

• Pipework
• Utility cables
• Air bricks
• Damaged brickwork
• Door thresholds
• Garage doors

Once inside, mice can contaminate food, damage insulation, gnaw electrical cables and create nesting areas within lofts, wall voids and kitchens.

One of the most important parts of effective rodent control isn’t just dealing with the mice already inside – it’s identifying and sealing the entry points to prevent them returning.

If you’ve noticed scratching noises, droppings, or signs of rodent activity, it may be worth checking around your property for any gaps that could be providing access.

Another rodent investigation completed in Nottinghamshire today.

The client had been hearing noises within the property and was concerned about possible rodent activity.

Our inspection quickly identified both signs of activity behind the kitchen kickboards and a potential entry point around external pipework that could allow rodents access into the building.

Many infestations start with surprisingly small gaps around utility pipes, cables, air bricks, and damaged brickwork. Once inside, rodents can contaminate loft insulation, damage property, and create ongoing issues if the access points aren’t addressed.

A successful rodent treatment isn’t just about baiting and trapping – it’s about finding how they’re getting in and stopping them returning.
