Today’s install was literally a case of: let’s stick panels wherever we can and make it work… and that’s exactly what we did! 😅☀️

We also sorted this install out as best as we could.

We originally only went to add an additional battery to the system, but once we saw what the previous installer and Octopus had done, we couldn’t leave it looking like that on the side of somebody’s house.

Octopus had originally installed the heat pump slap bang in the middle of the wall, then returned to move it closer to the back of the house — but left all the consumer units in their original position.

Then the solar company came along and installed the Sigenergy system slap bang in the middle of the wall as well. 🤦🏼‍♂️

So while we were there, we tidied everything up as much as possible and made the whole setup look a lot cleaner.

We were back at the self-build houses again on Monday, installing the inverter, batteries and gateway.

That’s 5 houses completed, with just one more to go! There are still a few more houses to be built on the development though, who will no doubt be in touch for the same system 🌞

Another install where the customer got in touch asking if we could replace the old slates, install new felt, battens, tiles, new gutters, soffits and fascias, and fit solar panels — so that’s exactly what we did.

A big thanks to Ox Roofing again, who took care of the re-roof and got everything ready for us to come in and install the solar panels.

If your roof is in need of a bit of TLC and you’re also considering solar, you might be surprised at how cost-effective an in-roof solar system can be.

Once you take into account the number of tiles or slates needed to cover the same square metreage as a solar panel, the overall cost can work out very similar — or sometimes even cheaper.

That’s why it always baffles me when you see new-build homes with just 1–3 solar panels. In many cases, it would literally be cheaper to install more in-roof solar panels than to tile that same area of roof.
