Rare to get called back to one of my memorials but it seems the herd were so fond of their farmer they used the stone as a rubbing post, so I'm excused!
I'm hoping a shortened stone and a bigger plinth will survive future 600Kg topple testing.

As this is not what comes through the door every day, I thought I’d share a “how we do it” post.
First pic is how it arrived.
As with most breaks I tend to grind the broken edges back leaving just a small contact area so that I can get the tightest possible joints.
Then I glue the pieces together face up with polyester resin. I do this on a flat piece of granite with a release agent to stop the job sticking to it.
Once it’s set I turn it over and fit stainless threaded bar on the underside and fill with resin. (pics 2 & 3)
Turn it back over and you are halfway there (if only). Pic 4
We are now dealing with both the Pietra Dura (there were a few fragments I could put in), and the break lines where the resin colour didn’t match, so it’s a dig out and improve where necessary. Pic 5
Sand down with 200G equivalent diamond, then put some more in (both in the Pietra Dura and the breaks). Pic 6
Third fill was fitting pieces to gaps where the original material was lost.
Sand down again (Pic 7) and if it looks okay run through to 800 and a bit of polishing powder.
Buff the edges and Bob’s your Uncle. Pic 8
