This weekend will see the completion of 10 years of Galaxy Technical Solutions Ltd, formed off the back of a surprise redundancy from over 27 years in the corporate world. At that time I had no idea what was in store for me, and safe to say it’s been 10 years on an interesting and rocky road in which time I have:
- worked as a consultant for Gatwick Airport on a fixed term engineering project
- built and tested equipment for the MoD
- provided and installed new sound and lighting equipment for local arts venue, All Saints Centre
- designed and installed electrical, fire, security, safety and IT services for Spithurst Hub in Barcombe
- installed LOTS of EV charge points on homes and businesses
- helped customers on their sustainable journey with the design and installation of Solar PV and battery storage
- carried out rewires, alterations, additions and condition reports on customer homes
- worked on a huge number of events, festivals and shows providing temporary power installations and safety sign offs…..
To name but some!
I am extremely grateful to all of the customers that have helped on this unusual journey, and especially those that have ‘bought local’ sometimes at the expense of a slightly cheaper deal. Notably I should also mention So Sussex who had me on board as an electrician and subsequently Event Manager for 10 years of Elderflower Fields Festival; Power Logistics who have also been a customer from the beginning and who, especially over the last few years have had me working on a wide range of projects (End of the Road; Kent Show; Beyoncé; Imagine Dragons; P!nk; Jay Z; Bruce Springsteen; European Athletics….the list goes on!); and local green energy provider Ovesco for having brought me on board for a couple of amazing solar PV projects at Priory School and Holmansbridge Farm Shop.
As things move on to chapters new I am now diversifying further, and with quality and safety always having been key principles I am pleased to have been engaged as a freelance Quality Assessor for one of the two major Competent Person Schemes for MCS solar and battery accreditation; and undergoing training as a teacher for those involved in temporary event power. These do not mean my leaving behind the work streams that I have grown over the years, but add considerably to business stability and future plans.
My last mention has to be to my wife, Katie Greenwood, who quite honestly has been my rock since the day redundancy was announced. She has never once wavered in her support for my ventures, or her positivity and determination that I shall succeed. If nothing else, the lockdown period should probably have killed the business, and truth be my mental health has probably never been the same. But team Mark and Katie march on regardless, and Galaxy Technical Solutions is here for an 11th year!
Thank you one and all….you know where I am if you need me.
