HARVEST MOON - Gathering

Working together with architect Charles Holland and design historian from we have designed and made a table using materials harvested from a forty mile radius in Kent. The project explores uncommon uses of biomaterials, along with rituals of harvesting and gathering.

The table is intended to be the centre of curated events where it is collectively assembled at ‘harvest gatherings’ - bringing people together to ask “What do we gather, harvest and give thanks for today?”

The Harvest Moon table is made from chalk, gypsum, lime, split-chestnut pailings, bark peelings, grubbed-up apple tree branches, bailing twine and pallet straps. Two rural businesses generously allowed us to glean what waste materials we could from their industry.

The first gathering was held at UCA School of Art, Architecture and Design in Canterbury on Monday the 29th of June, not long after the summer solstice. Here we are celebrating the first outing and successful assembly of the Harvest Moon table.

The project was funded by an internal research grant from UCA.
