SMART HOME STUFF:
It's worth calling some companies out for the prices they charge. In this case it's lamplec.co.uk - and the price they charge for the BG smart dimmer.

This is a great smart dimmer, it works really well. Alexa, Google & Siri compatible.
We use them at home: "Alexa, lighting down to 20%", "Alexa, lighting on" etc... Yes, we're lazy, and we don't want to get up when we're lounging around watching the telly. Or when we're going to bed we can walk up the stairs and say "Lighting off". Or coming into the house, and say "lounge lights on".

[Also, we've used a BG Smart Socket for the past 5 years to turn the kettle on while we're still in bed, so it's ready when we get downstairs to make the morning cuppa. Hasn't missed a beat in 5 years.]

They cost about £30 each (that's with the VAT) for the modules at most wholesalers. Lamplec are charging just short of £125 for the same item.

If you want any of these fitted, we'll naturally be charging you the lower price for parts!

Moneysaver:

Relamping 125 6' 70W fluorescent lights with LED tubes. 70W power use for each lamp down to 24W.
And not doing just a straight tube swap (which you could) , but removing the old ballasts and capacitors, rewiring the fittings to put power straight to the tube. This saves another 10W per fitting.

The total saving for the customer is from approx 10kW per hour across the 125 lights to approx 3kW per hour. At commercial electricity rates (more than our domestic rates) this 65% reduction in electricity costs makes a huge saving. And it stacks up at 8-10 hrs a day, Mon-Fri.

It pays for itself in a year.

𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦: We're qualified and insured to Test and Inspect for Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs, formerly known as Periodic Inspection Reports).

We're able to report on all sizes of installations, from small Landlord Rental properties, through larger domestic, Commercial and Industrial installations.

With domestic properties, Inspections should be carried out at most every 10 years, or on change of tenancy. For rental properties the period is 5 years. Other types of properties (public, commercial and industrial) have their own periods depending on type of use.

We're happy to just inspect and you can pass on the report elsewhere for any remedial work. We are obviously happy to remedy any problems, as well. We can discuss your needs and find a compliant way to fulfil the Wiring Regs as well as any requirements you have. Nearly all our customers do have us carry out this work.

Remember: If you have any insurance claim involving damage caused by the electrical installation, or electrical goods, one of the first question insurers will ask is, " When was your electrical installation last checked?"
