While many of you had been enjoying the summer holidays, Cheesmur's site teams were hard at work ensuring schools across Sussex were ready to welcome students back for the new academic year. ☀️🏫

Delivering major upgrades within the six-week summer break requires meticulous planning, disciplined scheduling, and seamless supply chain coordination. We're proud to have successfully handed over safe, modernised learning environments across multiple Sussex schools, right on time for the start of term.

From modernising catering facilities at Ocklynge to carrying out targeted maintenance works at Glynde Gap, our teams have delivered vital improvements that will benefit students, staff and school communities for years to come.

There's nothing more rewarding than knowing these projects will help enhance the day-to-day educational experience for hundreds of young people. Same time again next year? 😄

We've been making great progress at the iconic Harvey's Brewery in Lewes.

Our team continues to make fantastic headway on this residential retrofit project. On the second floor, second-fix works are progressing smoothly, with kitchen installations well underway and bathroom fit-outs close behind as both apartments near completion.

Meanwhile, on the first floor, plastering is advancing at pace, keeping the programme comfortably ahead of the upcoming carpentry phase.

A big thank you to our valued contractors, Walls & Ceilings and Carpentry4Homes, for their exceptional workmanship, commitment, and ongoing dedication on site.

Last week, we were delighted to return to Chailey Secondary School for their annual Careers Fair, giving Year 9 and 10 students the opportunity to explore the wide range of career paths available to them.

Our Estimating Director, Dan, spent the day talking to students about the variety of roles within the construction industry and the different routes into the sector as they progress through their education.

Of course, no career fair would be complete without a fun challenge! Our next generation of budding estimators were put to the test, using their best judgements to estimate the number of sweets in each jar, with suitably sweet rewards at stake!

A thoroughly enjoyable day and a great opportunity to introduce young people to the breadth of careers available within construction.

Last weekend, a few of our Cheesmur team took on the London South Tough Mudder. Let's just say this wasn't your average team building exercise.

Huge shout‑out to Zak Wiltshire, Terry Cox, Teresa Skinner, Kirsty Green, Daniel Bell and Stuart Cooper for completing the course. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart, and we’re incredibly proud of the grit they showed from start to finish.

Moments like this remind us how strong our team spirit really is, on site, in the office, and even knee‑deep in mud.

Progress continues at Homefield Primary School in . The new aluminium windows and doors have been installed, and the courtyard is now being prepared for the artificial grass and canopy. Internal repairs are moving forward, with the new partition in place and floor finishes and decorations due to begin next week. All new fire doors are fitted, and M&E works are nearing completion.

Progress is moving at a great pace at our Redwoods bespoke residential project.

The roof structure continues to take shape, as more rafters, hips, and framing go in and the overall scale and form of the building is really taking shape. The feature stonework is making fantastic progress, showcasing top-tier craftsmanship that brings real character to the property. Internally, ground-floor prep is well underway with the GM Super membrane now installed, setting the stage for insulation and underfloor heating to follow. We’ve also met with Bowalker Windows to finalise the window and bifold door details ahead of their upcoming installation.

Looking ahead, we’re progressing with the remaining roof works, installing fascias and soffits, building up the underfloor heating and ground‑floor insulation, and continuing stonework and coordination for the upcoming M&E first‑fix stage. Brilliant effort from the whole team to keep all these moving parts aligned. Follow our page to stay updated on this exciting project, as it continues to progress.

With the summer holidays nearing an end, it’s about that time when the kids start heading back, but our site teams never left!

Over the past six weeks, Cheesmur have delivered essential upgrades, modernisations and complex refurbishments across five Sussex educational sites: Western Road, Glyne Gap, Millais, Homefield and St Andrews.

Working within a strict holiday window demands precise logistics, disciplined scheduling and reliable supply chain coordination, ensuring every classroom is ready the moment term begins. This standard of delivery recently earned Cheesmur two industry awards recognising excellence within the education sector.

We are approaching completion of this prestigious residential project in East Sussex, and our team is now focused on delivering the final details to the highest standards.

The project incorporates a carefully selected palette of high-quality materials and modern technologies, including handmade bricks, heritage flint work, energy-efficient windows and air source heat pumps, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary performance.

A huge well done to the entire Cheesmur project team for their continued hard work, commitment and attention to detail throughout the build, all of which directly contributed to the project's outstanding quality.

It was an honour to receive not one, but two awards in recognition of our work with local schools and colleges recently.

The first was from South Downs Learning Trust for facilitating multiple workplace visits over the past year, and the second was from East Sussex County Council in recognition of the careers support work we have delivered across the county.

Our Estimating Director, Dan Hayman, heads up this work on behalf of Cheesmur, working closely with local schools and education providers to encourage the next generation to consider a career in construction.

Dan said: "It's always nice to receive recognition, but even better to know we're making a positive difference. Supporting schools, hosting workplace visits and helping young people explore careers in construction is something we're proud to be involved in. Here's to continuing that work and helping more young people discover the opportunities our industry has to offer."

Our office team recently visited one of our active sites in East Sussex to see first‑hand how their work shapes project delivery. From planning and procurement to coordination and communication, their contribution is felt in every stage of construction, and we simply couldn’t do it without them.

Bringing the team on site was a great opportunity to show the real‑world impact of their efforts and to keep everyone closely connected to the projects they help drive forward. It’s this shared understanding and collaboration that ensures our sites run smoothly and our clients receive the consistently high standard of service Cheesmur is known for.
