Part two of our walk around this recently completed garden

In this part, Isaac looks at the back garden and how we balanced family life with spaces for dining, entertaining and relaxing

A closer look at some of the quieter details from this recently completed garden

Having shared the wider scheme, these images focus more closely on the planting and the way it begins to soften and inhabit the spaces around the pool

Loose grasses, perennial planting and moments of stronger colour sit amongst evergreen structure, creating layers of texture and movement while helping the larger areas of paving feel more settled within the garden

This garden is a great example of how planting can completely soften a large, relatively square scheme with generous areas of hard landscaping, bringing atmosphere, movement and a much more immersive feeling to the space

There are some lovely moments already, from the Geum moving through the borders to the poppy seedheads and grasses catching the light, but the most exciting part is knowing how much fuller and more enveloping these spaces will become as the planting continues to establish

A recently completed garden where the architecture of the house gave us a strong starting point for the wider design

The layout is deliberately simple and structured, with a long central route drawing you through the garden and a restrained palette of materials helping to give the space a sense of calm and continuity

Around that structure, the planting is much softer. Generous drifts of Hydrangea, grasses and perennials soften the edges of the paving, with clipped evergreen forms giving the scheme enough weight and rhythm to hold everything together

A slightly different week on site for Refined

With some of the team taking a well-earned break over the school holidays, our director Jacob has had a rare opportunity to get back on the tools alongside Joe, our Head of Operations, helping to break ground on one of our newest projects and keep things moving

Jacob and Joe have worked alongside one another for more than 15 years and have been involved in well over 1,000 landscaping projects together during that time. There’s an understanding that comes with that amount of time working together, and it’s been good to see them back setting out a garden side by side

It also says a lot about the wider team. Having such a broad range of experience and practical skill across the company means people can step in, support one another and keep projects moving when others take some much-needed time away

For Jacob, it’s also a chance to return to the foundations of the business and the part of the work he has always loved most: being outside, building gardens

Whether he’ll make it back to the office is another question!

A first full look at one of our recently completed gardens

The design wraps around the entire property, from a generous front driveway through to two distinct large rear garden zones, alongside a number of more practical and functional spaces

Wellness and outdoor living sit at the heart of the scheme, with a large swimming pool, sauna and outdoor shower alongside spaces for cooking, dining and entertaining

Beyond the larger features, the garden is carefully divided into a number of quieter and more practical areas, using changes in level, planting and structure to create a sense of journey as you move around the property

Despite the scale of the garden, planting plays an important role throughout, softening the architecture and larger areas of paving, and helping each space feel settled, relaxed and enjoyable to spend time in

A garden designed for everyday family life, entertaining and spending much more time outside

A closer look at one of our recently completed gardens

This was a complete wraparound design, from the front entrance and driveway through to the entire back garden

In this first part, Isaac talks through some of the thinking behind the driveway design, including how we balanced the practical need for generous parking with creating a softer, more atmospheric sense of arrival through the planting

A simple palette of materials gives the space a sense of calm and continuity, softened by textured planting that brings movement and life to the more structured elements.

Join our director Jacob for the final part of our walk around this BALI Award-winning garden in Buckhurst Hill

In this video, Jacob follows the boardwalk as it moves through the shadier, densely planted borders, before continuing towards the entertainment area and garden building beyond

The planting creates a real sense of enclosure here, making you feel immersed and enveloped by it
