HERTFORDSHIRE WEEKLY GARDENING TIPS - WEEK 20!! 🌿
🌱 We hope everyone has had a brilliant week and enjoying the last bit of the weekend. We’ve officially reached WEEK 20 of our weekly gardening tips. We now have tips for just over a third of the year!! ‼️A reminder that we always have the 3 most recent ones pinned at the top of our channel ‼️
TIP 1 - 🚰check taps and hoses before frost arrives
With the cold and wet round the corner, it’s getting time to disconnect and drain hoses for storage. Doing it sooner than later can be better to prevent frost damage. It’s worth checking your outdoor tap and consider turning it off at the valve, if it is a tap with an isolating valve you can check the manufacturer’s instructions for shutting it off
TIP 2 - 🌾 tidy your edges before the winter
Before the colder, wetter weather sets in, take some time to tidy up the edges of your lawn. Grass can gradually spread into flowerbeds and along paths, making borders look untidy. If you want to put some extra effort to make a bigger difference, use a half-moon edging iron or a sharp edging tool to create a clean, defined edge between your lawn and borders
TIP 3 - 🌼 mark plants that need dividing next year
Some established perennials benefit from being divided when they become overcrowded or produce fewer flowers. Autumn is a good time to assess which plants may need attention , look for large clumps with a dead or weak centre, reduced flowering or growth that has spread beyond its allotted space. Make a note of these plants so you can check the best time to divide each variety.
