HERTFORDSHIRE WEEKLY GARDENING TIPS - WEEK 12!! 🪴
Here are some quick gardening tips that we hope can help keep your garden fresh and maintained through the summer!! ☀️
TIP 1 - 🌿 Give your hedge its last trim
(Sometimes not so quick!!) As we get to the end of summer and growth begins to slow down, now is a good time to get your hedge to the level you’d like it to be for the autumn and winter months. Cutting now keeps your garden neat after fast spring growth and prepares plants for winter by letting them heal before cold weather arrives
TIP 2 - 🌱 Collect your own seeds
Towards the end of August, some flowers will be producing mature seed heads. Collecting and storing seed from suitable plants can give you free plants for next year’s garden. Look for seed heads that have turned brown or dried out rather than collecting them while they are still green. It’s also worth collecting the seeds from the plants that have done well in the past year as they work well in your gardens environment
TIP 3 - 🌸 Give containers a late summer boost
By the end of August, hanging baskets and patio pots can start to look a little tired after months of flowering and exposure to hot, dry weather. Give them a quick refresh to keep them looking their best into September. You can do this by removing dead flowers, yellowing leaves and any damaged growth. This tidies the display and encourages plants to put their energy into producing new growth and flowers.
We hope you can use these tips to help your garden stay fresh and maintain with little effort. If you know anyone who can benefit from these feel free to share!! 😁
Have a wonderful week everyone!! ☀️
