Started a new project for my new and wonderful clients a week and a half ago renovating their Dutch barn. Loads more to do but trying to get everything in the dry as soon as possible then to move on to the inside. Fascinating project and really enjoying the multiple layers of work involved. Watch this space.

Finished this complicated little project last Wednesday, completely altering the access to the attic room for my client. She’s been struggling up and down a 70degree loft stairs since she moved in so I’ve changed everything back to front with (my first ever staircase) in 36 years. Didn’t have a staircase jig so I knocked one up in an hour. Worked perfectly as far as I’m concerned. Cost me £30 to make. lol. The newly built partition has moved the door to the other end of the room. I even plastered the new wall. Those that know me know I hate plastering but got it done in the end. Client is very happy so that’s good. 👍

Had very varied job over the last couple of weeks. A retaining wall with steps for access, then I was asked to lay a new oak affect vinyl flooring in my clients bathroom then back outside to create a brick step leading up from one level to another. Variety is the spice of life apparently 🙄🤪. Alls good though.

Hi peeps. Sorry but it’s time for a little rant. I know in our industry quotes are usually carried out free of charge but perhaps current and potentially new clients could take a moment to consider the extraordinary amount of time a sole trader has to invest whilst working out a price. Ie: site meetings, scale drawings, phone calls, cutting lists, drop charts , labour costings oh and the huge and detailed emails that eventually reach the (client) in the form of a quote. Only to not potentially get the work (expected more often these days) but more to the fact they don’t even have the decency to acknowledge your time invested by getting back to you either way. Even if it’s just a quick text saying thank you and we’ll get back to you in the near future. What little spare time I have these days is not there to be taken advantage of. Neither is the 36 years of experience I have accumulated to enable me to carry out such complex projects. For those of you out there please have a little bit of respect and decency to take two minutes to reply to my emails and take into account my (free) time I have invested on your behalf. This country and its inhabitants have changed for the worse over the past few years. No respect and no appreciation for anyone else. Sad times indeed. oh and the photos above show the years of blood sweat and tears that have gone into my being where I am presently. 😡😡😡

Just finished yesterday a fiddly little job of removing a glass and aluminium roof from a conservatory due to it being too hot to use in the summer and too cold in the winter 🥶. A new timber double hipped roof with 80mm insulation and plasterboard, on the exterior I used plastic slates due to the low pitch angle and a mop stick and lead finish for the hips. My client was apprehensive about plastic slates but is incredibly happy with the end result. Me too. It’s made an unusable room very much more of an improvement for him. Job done.

Haven’t been on here for a little while as been busy working on a couple of projects. Commissioned by my long standing client to build a dresser top for an existing dresser base. 2.6m long so a bit of a beast. My client is going to paint the whole unit in a dark blue. Should look lovely once it’s finished.

Whilst my girl is in Santorini , Greece with her bestie, I’ve lit the fire pit and cooked a very simple but quite tasty meal for myself. Chargrilled chicken breast with garlic and Italian herbs on a brioche bun with mayo. Might as well eat something as opposed to talk to myself lol 😂

Hello peeps, haven’t been on here for a while. Been working on a new project for the last 5 weeks, creating a new driveway and parking area for the clients I built the 100 metre flood wall for 3 years ago. They have decided to move the access driveway further up the road to ensure a flood won’t affect them ever again. 40 metres of hawthorn hedge cut down and roots removed, well over 300 tonnes of soil dug out and removed, new rainwater waste and inspection chamber installed, a water pipe installed for a standpipe further up the garden, 300sq m of w**d control membrane laid,100 tonnes of type 3 hardcore laid, raked and compacted to 150mm finished depth and to cap it all off the 9” hollow block wall I built way back was reconfigured and rebuilt in a straight line where the original flood defence gate was located. 100 more blocks and 4 tonnes of aggregate to infill the hollow blocks finally found the job completed. Terrible bad back and an umbilical hernia gained to remind me I’m too old for this lark nowadays. Anyway sob story over and done with. Next job Monday. Have a great weekend everyone.

Wrapped this project up yesterday for my client. A fiddly job as most of the wall was on a curve so a brick line was out of the question. Client is happy so that makes me happy.
