Why the details matter: rescuing a 2-year-old solar & battery system

This homeowner originally reached out to us because they wanted their solar and battery storage relocated out of the loft space. With their original installer having ceased trading, they needed an experienced team to take on the move.

Once on site to inspect the setup, Libby uncovered several issues that needed rectifying to bring the installation up to standard:
1) Loft storage issues: The battery modules were sitting directly on uneven floorboards without their proper mounting bases, were missing wall bracket kits and top covers, and were secured with makeshift restraints.

2)No panel communication: Tigo optimisers had been fitted under their ground-mount array, but without the most important part, a Cloud Connect Advanced (CCA) TAP, the customer had no visibility of panel-level output.

3) Missing Components on their EV charger: Their myenergi zappi charger had also never been commissioned properly, meaning it wasn't operating as intended alongside the home.

4)Missing schematics: There was no documentation or string layout, leaving the customer unaware of how their panels were actually wired.

How we put it right:
Libby recommissioned the zappi on the spot during the initial survey so they could start charging on Intelligent Octopus Go. We then returned to decommission the loft kit and relocated both the inverter and battery storage to a dedicated outdoor spot with a protective weatherproof cover. Finally, Libby mapped the strings, integrated the panel-level monitoring, and replaced a faulty panel under manufacturer warranty.

A fantastic result for the customer, and they are absolutely over the moon to finally have everything running as intended. This is exactly why choosing an installer who is conscientious and genuinely cares about your home makes all the difference. Did you know you can upgrade a Simpson & Partners charger instead of replacing it.
A customer recently lost their link to Intelligent Octopus Go after changing cars because their older Home Series charger couldn’t integrate directly.
Libby swapped out the internal board to the newer V3 version, getting them straight back onto cheap off-peak charging without buying a whole new unit.
While there, we also tidied up the consumer unit to fix a few missing safety elements because we like to do things properly, always.

Back in Bedford for our very first air conditioning installation!
Having previously installed battery storage with a gateway and carried out electrical testing for this property, we were delighted to be invited back to fit out their garden room with efficient heating and cooling.
