Proud to be working in our borough to help to protect and conserve Royal Court Theatre

👷 Works are ongoing at the Royal Court Theatre focusing on putting the building into a safe and stable condition, as a basis for a future works to bring the premises back into active use.

You may have seen contractors and scaffolding at the historic King Street building recently, and a critical element of these works is to survey and remove dry rot which has been identified in the building.

With local contractors appointed, the lower level parts of the building have already been surveyed and the most efficient way to access the higher level parts of the premises is by the use of specialist access equipment.

A temporary opening will be created in the west side elevation of the building in order to allow this equipment to access the building, and the brickwork will be carefully reinstated following the works.

A robust methodology has been agreed between the local authority, the contractors, and their professional team. We want to reassure community who know and love the building that this work is being undertaken in the interests of protecting and conserving the Royal Court Theatre building and will be carefully undertaken and reinstated.

This phase of works is expected to be completed in late spring ✅

💚 Community Spirit Shone Through at The Big Leigh Clean Up 💚

Despite challenging weather conditions, more than 80 volunteers came together for The Big Leigh Clean Up on Friday, delivering an incredible show of community pride and determination. 💪

We knew the weather might put people off, so seeing so many volunteers turn up ready to help was genuinely amazing. It shows how much people care about Leigh and the pride they have in their town. 🫶

it wasn’t just productive, it was a really good day. Lots of laughs, plenty of teamwork, a proper feel-good atmosphere throughout, and a great chance to catch up with local companies and community groups along the way.

Volunteers from Wigan & Leigh Hospice, Leigh Leopards RLFC, City Electrical Factors, Wigan Youth Zone, Express IT Group, Urban Apex Ltd, Struktura Engineering Services, Sanderson Watts Associates Ltd, Leigh Youth Hub, Leigh Sports Village Ltd, Brighter Cleaning Solutions Ltd, The Lowton Creative Company Ltd, Spinning Gate Shopping Centre, Leigh, Structures Pointing Ltd, Structures Group, ADW, The Brick, Boxing for Better and St Joseph's Players collected over 400 bags of rubbish in just a couple of hours!

The event was generously supported by Morrisons, Alex Grundy from G&Teatime, and The Replenishery, who provided water and snacks for volunteers, and we need to say a massive thank you to BuzzBear Design & Marketing's Richard Renda for coming along to give his support and take photos. 🙌

Fininishing at G&Teatime for a well-earned drink (thanks Lloyd!) gave everyone the chance to come together and celebrate what we’d achieved.
