We’re back in Birstall, extending the block paving we previously installed right through to the bottom of the garden.

But first, there’s some clearing up to do… 🌿

The fence needs realigning with the true boundary, the overgrowth needs removing, and that concrete pillar has to go before the transformation can take shape.

Then comes the challenge: tying the new pathway into the existing paving for one seamless finish — while helping keep the dog out of the garden beds! 🐾

This is just the starting point. Wait until you see it coming together…

A rocking slab could be telling you more than you think. 👀

Fresh jointing won’t fix what’s causing the movement. On this patio, we lifted the slabs, checked beneath them and rebuilt the bed before priming and relaying the original paving.

These slabs weren’t just loose. Something underneath wasn’t right. 👇

The homeowner’s paving had started moving underfoot, and the jointing compound was coming away.

Putting fresh jointing compound between moving slabs would only leave the underlying problem unresolved. So we lifted the affected paving to investigate.

One issue we found was that the slabs didn’t appear to have been properly slurry primed — a crucial step that helps them bond to the mortar bed.

The repair involves:
✅ Breaking out the existing bed
✅ Checking the MOT Type 1 sub-base underneath
✅ Rebuilding the mortar bed
✅ Properly slurry priming and relaying the original slabs

And because we’re reusing the existing paving, each slab needs to go back into its correct position so everything fits together.

Most of this work will be hidden once we’re finished. But it’s what happens underneath that helps keep the paving secure.

A good finish starts with getting the foundations right.

🌿 OLD & TIRED ➡️ FRESH & BUILT TO LAST! 🌿

This patio had definitely seen better days, so it was time to give it a new lease of life! 🧱✨
