Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle'⁣

I love adding hydrangeas to a planting scheme their large blooms really add stunning late summer interest in the garden. ⁣

🌿You can find varieties in shades of blue white or pink so there is always a variety that will suit your planting scheme.⁣

☀️Hydrangeas like Clay soil so are perfect for the heavy clay you find in Leicestershire. They are also happy in light shade.⁣

[Shrub]⁣
Common name: Butterfly Bush⁣
Latin name: Buddleja ⁣

This Buddleja was swarming with bees and butterflies. I managed to capture the gorgeous Peacock butterfly feasting on its nectar!

Buddlejas are shrubs which nectar rich conical shaped flowers and attract all sorts for wildlife in particular butterfly's hence the name! They come in a variety of colours such as white, purples, blue and pinks.⁣

🌱 Buddlejas thrive in almost any situation they are happy with any type of soil and don't mind bright sun or a shady spot. To attract more butterfly's and bees a sunny spot is perfect!⁣

✂️ Buddlejas can get large - perfect if you have a large space to fill. However, If your struggling for space find a compact variety that will be more easy to manage. ⁣
This shrub likes to be pruned back hard early spring. This encourages a nice flush of flowers every year and keeps the plant a nice shape. ⁣

🌺Buddlejas flower mid to late summer so keep and eye out for any near you and see what butterfly you can spot!

Helenium 'Moerheim beauty' A lovely pop of colour amongst grasses🌾

This gorgeous perennial also known as sneezeweed flowers in the summer and has lovely burnt orange flowers that turn copper as they go over😍

☀️ Helenium likes full sun and is happy in mostly any moist well-drained soil.

💡 Don't forget! Regular deadheading prolongs flowering.

Anyone else working outside in this lovely weather ? I'm armed with loppers and secateurs today! Tasked with clearing borders and preparing them for planting. This garden does not need a design as the hard landscaping structure is already there. It just needs to be tidied up so that the structure becomes more prominent. However, I will be drawing up a design followed by a planting plan just to help the client understand what the garden will eventually look like 😊Anyway, back to work.....

🌿[Houseplant series] 4of4⁣
Latin name: Aglaonema stripes⁣
Common name: Chinese evergreen ⁣

The gorgeous foliage on this houseplant really brightens up the house with its rich green leaves and silvery- white stripes.⁣

🌞Aglaonema will thrive in low to bright light levels. The lighter the foliage the more light the plant needs. Avoid direct light as this will scorch the leaves. ⁣

💧Try to ensure you keep the soil moist at all times, do not allow it to dry out. However, do not overwater as this may encourage root rot. Moderation is the key!⁣

💡Fun fact! Chinese evergreen improves the air quality by filtering out toxins from the environment!⁣

[Hosta]

Hostas are one of the best foliage plants in the garden. They are easy to look after and last a long time. Hostas come in different colours, leaf shapes and sizes. Which means there is a one out there for everyone! ⁣

In the summer they also produce gorgeous flowers in shades of lavender and white.⁣

🌞 Hostas are excellent for a shady spot in the corner. They prefer light to medium shade. Yellow leaved Hostas won't mind some sun whereas, blue leaved Hostas prefer light shade.⁣

For Hostas it is important to keep the soil moist. Therefore you must ensure the soil doesn't dry out especially during mid summer when there is little rainfall. As they like moist soil the heavy clay soil of Leicester really is perfect but of course you should mix in some multi purpose compost prior to planting. ⁣

[Furniture] If you want to create the 'Always been here' kind of garden, adding rust effect furniture like benches, tables or pot stands really help in achieving this naturalistic yet classy look.

Also, materials like wicker, bamboo and wood are perfect.

[Common Foxglove]⁣
Latin name: Digitalis Purpurea⁣

It's been a busy few days... thought I'd share this foxglove party I stumbled upon.⁣

The common Foxglove is a very common wild flower growing freely along hedges and in fields. Foxgloves add lovely height to any border and the bees absolutely love them!⁣

🌞They are quite happy in sun or shade and would prefer light soil but thrive well in heavier soils like clay too.⁣

🌺Most foxgloves are Biennial this means they flower in their second year when grown from seed. They are also prolific seeders. If you want to control their seeding and not have foxgloves poking up around the garden (I would love that😆) then just cut the stem right down to ground level once it has finished flowering. This might even encourage a second flush of flowers!⁣

💀Be aware that Foxgloves contain the chemical digitalin which is used to treat heart conditions. All parts of the plant are toxic if eaten. If you have sensitive skin use gloves when handling the plant. ⁣
