Happy 49th birthday to Tom Hardy!
Born in London on 15 September 1977, Tom has built a remarkable career across film and television, often playing characters who are intense, unpredictable and completely different from one another.
One of his earliest major film appearances came in Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down in 2001. He then began attracting more attention with roles in Star Trek: Nemesis, RocknRolla and Bronson, the latter requiring him to put on around three stone for the role.
From there came a run of huge performances in films including Inception, Warrior, The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road, Legend, The Revenant and the Venom films. His performance in The Revenant also earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
For British television audiences, though, one of his most memorable roles has to be Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders. Tom joined the series in its second run and quickly made the character one of the most talked-about figures in the programme.
Away from acting, he has also become heavily involved in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, winning competitions and later earning his brown belt in 2026.
From gritty British drama to some of the biggest films in the world, Tom Hardy has certainly packed a lot into 49 years.
