All roads around the Langdale Moor wildfire have reopened. This includes the A171 between Whitby and Scarborough and the B1416, however a 30mph speed limit is in place on sections of both roads to keep everyone safe.

Please stick to this speed limit as the fire is still ongoing and emergency services are still working in the area. There may be smoke reducing visibility, mud on the road from the ongoing work and our sweepers may be on the road cleaning this up.

Laybys will be closed, please keep moving and do not stop to look at the fire.

Police will be patrolling the area.

Minor roads leading into the moors remain closed and the Falling Foss and May Beck car parks in Sneaton Forest remain closed while the firefighting continues.

We would like to remind residents that disposable v**es must never be thrown in household bins.

Last week a load caught fire in one our waste trucks and, thanks to our quick-thinking bin crew, they were able to safely dump a pile of around two tonnes of smouldering rubbish.

Firefighters had to be called to put out the rubbish and the crew were unhurt. The cause of the fire is once again being blamed on sparks from a battery inside a single use or disposable v**e which had been thrown in a bin.

Vapes, batteries and anything containing batteries should be taken to household waste recycling sites which have special bins in order to recycle them safely.
