The final spaces we’re sharing from the Ilkley Grove residence bring together movement, pause and personal retreat.

The landing and spiral stair act as a gentle transition between floors, a moment to slow down. From here, the work nook is intentionally tucked away; a quiet, functional space designed for focus without feeling disconnected from the rest of the apartment.

Mark’s bedroom continues the upstairs story, warm, understated and cocooning. Soft textures, natural materials and a restrained palette create a space that feels calm and grounded, designed for rest at the end of the day.

Across the project, the aim has been to rework the internal layout to better suit how the home is lived in now, creating spaces that flow, support daily routines and feel quietly personal.

Within this project, the bathrooms have been designed to offer distinct experiences, responding to their position in the home and how they’re used.

The ground floor main bathroom is light and welcoming, combining a bath and open shower within a seamless micro-cement envelope. Wall and floor finishes flow continuously, anchored by a large wall-hung concrete basin and softened with matt black tiles and fittings for contrast without heaviness.

Upstairs, the shower room shifts in tone. Dark glazed porcelain tiles and deep lime-wash walls create a more intimate, cocoon-like atmosphere, a space designed to feel calm, enclosed and restorative.

Same project, same design language, but carefully tuned to how each space should feel.

These visuals are a direct response to the moodboards shared recently for this project, but they also reflect a fundamental shift in how the apartment flows.

Alongside developing the look and feel, we’ve rethought the internal layout from its existing form, opening up key spaces, improving flow, and creating clearer zones for living, cooking and relaxing. The aim was to make the apartment feel more intuitive and generous, without losing its sense of calm.

Natural materials, warm timber tones and soft colour accents carry through from the original concept, helping to tie the reconfigured layout together into a cohesive space.

More to follow as Ilkley Grove continues to evolve.

Upstairs at The Grove | Main Bedroom & Shower Room mood-boards.

Where the downstairs was light, open and quietly energising, the top floor shifts tone.

These spaces are designed to feel cocooning, calm and intentional, darker palettes, richer textures and softer light coming together to create a sense of retreat at the end of the day.

Natural materials, muted finishes and considered details help the bedroom and shower room feel restful rather than heavy. It’s less about contrast for contrast’s sake, and more about responding to how the space is used, and how you want to feel within it.

A quieter kind of luxury, designed for slowing down.

The Grove Residence.

We’re excited to share the early design direction for a returning client in this beautiful Victorian apartment overlooking The Grove in Ilkley. A setting like this calls for careful balance, respecting the building’s heritage while introducing a calm, contemporary layer for modern living.

Across these boards we’re exploring:
• Restored heritage details such as coving and panelling’s.
• Walnut joinery to bring warmth and depth.
• A palette of natural materials, soft stones and textured surfaces.
• Subtle modern elements to keep the spaces feeling timeless.

The aim is a home that feels quietly refined, grounded in its history but confidently current.

Next up, we’ll be sharing CGI renders of the spaces, followed by drawings and behind-the-scenes moments from the design process.

As always, it’s a pleasure working with returning clients and evolving a shared design language over time.

Ilkley Co-Worker Club

Last week we shared a little about how we think, paying attention to what already exists and letting that guide what comes next.

This project is a direct continuation of that approach. For the the starting point was the character of the building, the rhythm of the town and how people want to use the space day-to-day.

The mood-board outlines the overall look and feel of the space which is intentionally calm, warm and understated. The mood-board explores a balance of soft materials, structured joinery and generous light, creating a space that feels grounded, adaptable, easy to spend time in and support different ways of working.

This moodboard then became the starting point for both the 2D layout and the 3D design for the Ilkley Co-Worker Club. The palette, materials and atmosphere explored here informed early 2D planning decisions, from how different work zones connect, to where light, privacy and openness sits within the building. That thinking then carried through in to the 3D design, shaping joinery, propositions and the overall feeling the space..

These visuals are a snapshot of that process, with more to follow as the project evolves.

Progress often comes from paying attention to what already exists. In our work meaningful change rarely starts from scratch. It begins with understanding the stories, existing features, materials, and moments that are already present and responding to them with care.

Taking time to observe what’s lasted, what’s worked and what still feels relevant helps guide what comes next.

A quieter way to move forwards.

Our new studio space is complete and we are beyond excited to share a look at our finished studio.

One of the stand out features is the bold use of ribbed galvanised roofing sheets as wall cladding. These striking panels not only make an immediate impact but also draw the eye up, showcasing the impressive height and structure of the space. Keeping true to the buildings industrial roots, this element gives the design an edgy yet refined look.

Balancing the raw with the natural. To add warmth and contrast we introduced a one of a kind cedar shingle element, bringing in earthy tones and natural grains to balance the industrial features. The result is a space that feels, modern, creative yet grounded.

This project has been particularly special because it’s a space that’s truly ours. After 3 years of sharing offices with .bushi this is the next step in our journey together.

This transformation has been a true labour of love, with the majority of the work being done DIY. From cladding the walls, refinishing the original floorboards and adding the finishing touches, we’ve poured our hearts (and sweat) in to every inch of this space. It makes it that much more meaningful and we couldn’t be prouder.

This is just the beginning for this dynamic creative space, and we can’t wait to welcome the community in for workshops, events and more.
