Recently completed garage roof using Edilian Monopole Clay tiles.

The customer wanted a tile that was similar to the existing Boroughbridge tile and the Edilian was a great match for profile and size.

The rear elevation was extended so new decorative rafter feet were installed to replicate the rest of the roof.

We also installed new cast aluminium guttering with rafter brackets to give the roof a traditional look and finish.

This was a great little project using a tile that we had not used before as we will be carrying out a full strip and recover of the main house to match the garage at the start of next year.

We recently commenced the strip and recover of this 450m2 Yorkshire Stone Slate roof.

Having completed roofing works on the Wardens House 2 years ago we were appointed to carry out the first of two blocks on the site.

Reclaimed stone will be used for any damaged slates and we will be replacing the existing concrete ridge tiles with reproduction stone ridges to better suit the final look on the property.

We recently completed our cupa.pizarras R12 slate project.

Due to the property being in an area with high winds our client specified both nail and hook fixing for the slates due to previous issues. Galax CR2 clay capped angled ridges were used to finish the roof which has given it a much neater finish than the previous concrete ridge and dry ridge system.

The customer was delighted with the finished product having lived under a roof that was neither fit for purpose or what was specified during the original build of the property.

The team has done such a great job that it has lead to another 3 properties on the estate request quotations for new roofs their properties.

Fingers crossed this will lead to us being booked up well into summer 2026 🤞

We recently started our next project which is the strip and recover of this slate roof on a new build property.

You might be wondering why we are stripping a roof that is less than 5 years old and it all started when the customer has some slates blow off in high winds and found 30mm aluminium nails on the ground. This led him to research the British Standards and he soon realised that the roof that was on his house wasn’t carried to the specification or the standards it was meant to be. Below is a list of things that were wrong.

❌ membrane exposed at the eaves
❌ laps of membrane not taped
❌ wrong gauge batten fixings
❌ counterfeit battens used
❌ slates not graded
❌ slates not T1/S1 as specified
❌ incorrect type, length & gauge slate fixings
❌ ridge batten bracket not installed for DRS
❌ leadwork not carried out to LSTA guidelines

As well as these issues the workmanship was of very poor quality with several problem occurring with the roof soon after they moved in.

We will be carrying out the new roof to full British Standards which as an NRFC Competent Person Scheme member we do on each one of our projects.

The new slate to be used will be the cupa.pizarras R12 excellence 500 x 250 slates which having used several times we can rely on their high quality and excellent performance.

Works have been completed at St Paul’s House.

This job was our most challenging one to date with many difficult hurdles that the team had to overcome but the end result is one that each one of them can be proud of.

From the first day we started we discovered that we would need to remove all of the vaulted ceiling that were fixed to the battens and then fully insulate the roof with foil backed insulation boards. Each valley needed to be re-boarded as well as sections to the box gutters. All coping stones were re-bedded and pointed using hydraulic lime mortar. We also needed 7000 additional reclaimed 20X10 Welsh slates to finish the roof.

There has been a lot to take away and learn from this project but the main thing is that we manage to get it finished and the customers were over the moon with the end result.

Our afternoon at honister_slate_mine saw us take on the infinity bridge and via ferrata xtreme. Walking a tightrope 1000ft over Borrowdale Valley was a bit of challenge especially when it came to the second bridge! However everyone took climbing the side of the cliff faces in their stride and we even got to see a fly pass by two RAF jets. Once we finished we visited a viewing point to see the beautiful views of the Lake District and then came the hardest part of the whole day…the hours walk back down to the car park 😂

On Friday we took a trip to honister_slate_mine for an adventure day out where in the morning we took part in canyoning. This was a fantastic experience and once we all got used to the cold water everyone threw themselves into it…literally! From sliding down waterfalls, abseiling and jumping into plunge pools it was an adventure that we could have happily done all day. However the afternoon was full of different challenges which will be posted later.
