In the same way that you get an MOT for your car, it’s important to remember to get your electrics checked. ✅

Electrical installations deteriorate as they age, resulting in an increased risk of potentially dangerous hazards.

As well as the 10-year rule, if you find your home is showing signs of wear and tear you should consider having an electrical test.

These signs might include burning smells, sparking, flickering lights, or irregularities with sockets. If this is the case, you should have an EICR.

Additionally, all landlords are legally obliged to get an EICR carried out on their rental property every 5 years.

Did you know that 53.4% of all accidental domestic fires in England had an electrical origin in 2018/19? 🤯

Or that 71% of electrical fires were started by appliances in 2017/2018? 😲

If you’re a landlord or estate agent, you MUST ensure appliances provided in your property are ‘safe’. The best way to check they are safe is by doing a PAT test.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is the examination of electrical equipment and appliances to ensure that they are safe to be used.

Here at NSI, we are an award-winning nationwide company that offers national coverage over an extensive number of locations working alongside a vast array of letting and estate agents.

How long does an EICR take? 🤔

An EICR can take anywhere from 1.5 - 4 hours to complete. Nevertheless, this depends on the size of the property and the number of circuits that need testing.

This may inconvenience you for a short time as you will need to unplug various appliances before the electrician arrives.

However, the few hours it takes to complete a test far outweighs any risks to your property and the people inside!
