Do you know how to spot the red flags when choosing an electrician to carry out work for you?

🚩 Red flag #1: They're available immediately.

Sounds great when you want to get the job done ASAP, but good electrical contractors are booked out for weeks…

Take a look at the other red flags that should make you run for the hills 🏃 (or pick up the phone to us!)

Choosing any tradesperson on price alone is usually an expensive mistake in the long run.

And, bear in mind: the bigger the job, the bigger the headache and the greater the need to check you have the right person for the job!

Your electrical system certainly isn't the place to hunt for a bargain.

We're not angry, we're just very disappointed.

Who has heard that before and felt bereft? 😳

Imagine how all those electrical installations feel - and the electricians like us that discover them in that state.

Not to mention the people relying on them - how would it feel if there was a fault and it had no earth wire for the electricity to safely go through? 😱

A lot more than disappointed, is our guess!

Do you know your numbers when it comes to keeping up with electrical safety in your home (or your tenants' homes)?

📅 After 10 years: A new domestic electrical installation should be checked for electrical safety after ten years of service, according to the wiring regulations.

📅 Every 5 years: Rental properties should then be inspected and tested every five years.

Ever had your weekend ruined by a power outage, which caused the security alarm to go off, dragged you back from your day out, and upset your neighbours?!

And it all could have been avoided if you'd had the alarm serviced regularly (well, the power outage may still have happened - us sparkies don't have THAT much power!)

Intruder alarms and hardwired fire alarms have backup batteries to provide power when the main electricity fails.

A regular service of these important systems would tell you if it needed some tlc...
