Energy efficiency is becoming a bigger consideration for homeowners and buyers, with more attention being paid to running costs, heating systems and how well a property performs.

Research from Rightmove has suggested that homes improving their EPC rating can see an increase in value, although there are plenty of other factors to consider when it comes to house prices.

It could also mean we see a growing gap between homes that are energy efficient and those that require significant upgrades, as buyers become more aware of the costs involved.

We use breathable British-grown h**p insulation, with clay tiles, timber or cork cladding to complement the existing character of your home. The work is carried out externally, keeping disruption inside your home to a minimum.

A warmer, more comfortable dining room 🏡

For this 1935 home, the focus was on improving the comfort of a north-facing dining room while preserving the original character of the space.

Wrapt internally insulated the room using breathable fibre insulation board and lime plaster, taking care to retain the original skirtings and timber window features.

The result? A room that warms up more quickly, feels warmer and has improved acoustics.

One of Wrapt Homes’ first projects was this 1980s property in Leeds, with a whole-house approach to improving its comfort and energy efficiency.

The project included wood fibre insulation, floor and roof insulation, underfloor heating, an air source heat pump and mechanical ventilation, all designed to work together as part of the wider renovation.

What do Yorkshire-grown h**p and a 100-year-old home have in common? 🌱🏡

They're both part of the story behind Breatheasy – the new internal wall insulation system we've been developing here at Wrapt Homes.

Older homes weren't designed for many of today's insulation methods. Get it wrong and you can trap moisture within the walls, potentially creating a whole new set of problems.

So, rather than accepting the usual solution, we developed a different one.

Our latest Breatheasy system uses h**p insulation grown in East Yorkshire, chosen in part for its flexibility when working with the uneven walls often found in older properties. The breathable system allows moisture to move naturally through the wall while improving its ability to retain heat.

It's an innovation we're incredibly proud of. Breatheasy has been developed with support from the University of Birmingham and Energy Systems Catapult, and was recognised through the Big Retrofit Challenge at Futurebuild.

But ultimately, innovation only matters if it solves a real problem for homeowners.

For us, that's the exciting bit: finding smarter, more sustainable ways to make our older homes warmer, healthier and better equipped for the future.

Last weekend, Jamie and Colin from the Wrapt Homes team headed to the Horsforth Green Festival, organised by Horsforth Climate Action.

It was brilliant to meet so many local homeowners and chat about everything from damp and draughts to insulation, heat pumps and making older homes warmer and more energy efficient. Because knowing where to start is often one of the hardest parts – and that's exactly where we can help.

Highlight: Hearing, "I didn't know you existed – this is exactly what I need!" 🙌

Lowlight: Being told by a four-year-old, "This stall is sooo boring." 😂

Have you got one room in your home that's always colder than the rest?

Making an older home more energy efficient doesn't have to mean taking on a huge renovation project, which is exactly what happened at a recent Wrapt Homes project near Birstwith.

The owners of the 1906 property noticed that the original part of their home was considerably colder than its newer extension. After carrying out a Home Energy Action Plan, we were able to identify where heat was escaping and which improvements would make the biggest difference.

The family decided to start with one room – their son's bedroom, using our new Breatheasy internal wall insulation system.

Breatheasy has been designed specifically for older solid-wall homes, using breathable, natural insulation that helps retain heat without trapping moisture within the building.

And that's something we're passionate about at Wrapt - you don't always have to do everything at once. Start with the room that's causing you problems, feel the difference and then decide what's right for the rest of your home.
