Skelmonthorpe v Littletown u12 Maroons
Today's game was probably the best I have seen us play as a team, we showed our quality all across the pitch we the way we are playing at the moment has only been made possible by the tenacity, effort, desire and ability of each and every player. The most notable difference is our teamwork and this is down to the fantastic training from James, his work with the team has lifted them to a whole new level.
Our keeper as always was Oli W and although he didn't have much to do, he did everything right, talking to his defenders and making himself available for back passes and dealing with them with a clearance or a simple pass - always making the correct decision. He has become a really good and dependable goal keeper and always has things under control.
Our defence of Daniel, Teddy and Jack were again like a brick wall, Teddy our captain today bossing it and leading by example with his attitude and strength leading the back line so well. Right back to start was Daniel, such a cool head on his shoulders and reads the game so well he makes it look easy and plays some beautiful football. The same on the left with Jack, he makes defending look easy he has the ability to not only put in a crunching tackle, as he did a few times today, but is also brilliant on the overlap creating some good chances with his strength and ability running down the wing and interlinking with the midfield and forward players.
Centre midfield today were Thomas and Colton, both of them worked so hard on the pitch, battling for everything - I think they both must have covered every blade of grass. Not only working hard hard to win the ball but the linking up was excellent and their vision and pin point passing created lots of chances resulting in goals for both of them to top off their performance. Thomas almost scored an overhead kick aswell which would have been an unbelievable goal.
Our wide players today consisted of Leo, Isaac F, Isaac B and Kade, all of them doing exactly what was asked of them.
Leo had a fantastic game, one of the best I've seen him play he was really strong and battling to win the ball and carruing out his defensive duties to a T, but also very creative dribbling with the ball and driving us forward. His hard work was rewarded by getting on the score sheet with a brilliant finish at the back post from a corner.
Isaac F much the same at the other side dominating down his flank with some beautiful footwork and linking up with little one, twos and putting some inch perfect crosses in.
Kade, another who never gives up, pressing the opposition constantly forcing errors and then pouncing on the ball like a little bulldog driving us forward.
Isaac B also back to his best playing in 3 different positions today, firstly on the wing, where he showed the pace, power and skill that we all know he has, then in defence, dropping in for us and not only defending solidly but managing to burst forward creating counter attacks with his pace and passing ability, lastly going up front and putting pressure on their defence - once again creating so many chances for the team and scoring a very well taken penalty.
Lastly Alfie up front and midfield with his sublime touch and vision making it look so easy with composure on the ball his little give and goes and silky skills made it hard for the opposition to cope and coming away with 4 excellent goals for his efforts.
To sum up today, everyone gave everything with a very impressive performance it may sound like it was an easy game but it wasn't, Skelmonthorpe played a better game than the score line suggests, we were just THAT GOOD! Everyone working their socks off and doing their best in whatever position they were asked to play. Our passing was as good as it gets, our defence was solid our middle, wide and front players creative and hard working and best of all we played for each other and every single player played with class and confidence. I'm extremely proud of you all today.
