We’re getting very close to the finish line at our retrofit, refurb and extension project in Headingley.

The kitchen is now installed, flooring is down and second fix is complete, with the final details being worked through across the house.

We take pride in every step of the process at Inspired Builds, and this is where the attention to detail we work with becomes clear.

Our next update from this one will be the final reveal, once the last few details are complete.

There’s been just as much happening inside at Oak Road.

Plastering is now almost complete throughout, and on the upper floors the new floor insulation and underfloor heating system have been installed.

We’re also starting to see some of the finer internal details come together. On the first floor, new built-in storage is being formed, including inset arched shelving that will become part of the finished rooms.

It’s reaching that stage now where the house is starting to feel less like a major construction project and more like the home it’s going to become.

A big moment at Oak Road in North Leeds, with the scaffolding now down on the rear elevation and the transformation finally revealed.

The newPassiv-Haus standard conservation sash windows are now all installed, alongside a huge amount of work to the existing façade. The original stonework has been cleaned, repointed and repainted, as part of a careful refurbishment process.

Alongside the existing stone details being restored, new swift boxes have also been incorporated into the elevation.

The rear of the property almost looks new again, but without losing the character that made the building special in the first place. It’s great to see so much of the careful work that’s gone into the exterior finally revealed.

We have worked on a number of listed buildings over the years, and this project involved extending the nursery at Green Lane Primary School in Bradford, a Grade II listed building, creating a modern addition that still felt connected to its historic setting.

The design brought together old and new in a really considered way. A reclaimed stone archway from a Shipley mill was integrated into the new space, giving the extension an immediate sense of character and history.

Inside, a bespoke in-situ staircase was constructed using reclaimed timber purlins, steel and glass, adding another crafted, one-off element to the project.

Externally, the extension combined stonework with timber cladding, aluminium detailing around the roof, and large window surrounds, creating a contemporary finish that complemented the original listed building.

Imported light pendants from the USA added a final distinctive touch, making this a really memorable project with plenty of thoughtful detail throughout.

Today’s the day.

This morning, our 14 riders set off on more than 300 miles to the Netherlands and back, raising money for St Gemma’s Hospice along the way.

That’s 14 bikes, a combined age of 749 years, several questionable joints, a mixture of leg power and battery power, and hopefully enough enthusiasm to get everyone to the other side of the Channel.

There’ll no doubt be a few wrong turns, some healthy competition and plenty of stories by the time we make it back, but today is really about one thing: raising as much as we can for an incredible cause.

Tomorrow, the Queens Roundtable Cycling Group will finally get back in the saddle and begin the 300+ mile journey to the Netherlands and back, all in support of St Gemma’s Hospice.

The training is done. The bikes are ready. The bags are packed. The e-bike batteries are fully charged, although apparently we’re not supposed to mention those.

After weeks of talking about it, there’s nothing left to do now but ride.

We’ve already had some brilliant support, but there’s still time to help us push that fundraising total a little higher before we set off.

Nearly time to go.

On Thursday, the bikes will be ready, the bags packed and the weather forecast checked far too regularly.

14 members of the Queens Roundtable Cycling Group will set off on more than 300 miles of cycling to the Netherlands and back, all in support of St Gemma’s Hospice.

We’ve been doing rides like this for more than 25 years, and while the bikes, riders and average age may have changed considerably, the reason for doing it hasn’t.

St Gemma’s provides extraordinary care to people and families when they need it most, and we’d love to raise as much as we possibly can before the wheels start turning.

So, if you’ve been meaning to donate, this is your nudge.

Road bikes v e-bikes. The debate has begun.

On 10th September, this year’s Queens Roundtable ride gets underway, and there’s already something of a split in the camp.

On one side, the traditionalists. Legs, lungs and an unwavering belief that an electric motor is morally questionable.

On the other, the e-bike contingent, arriving suspiciously fresh at the top of hills and insisting that they’re “still pedalling”.

The arguments may continue all the way to Holland, but thankfully there is one thing all 14 riders agree on: raising as much as possible for St Gemma’s Hospice.

We’ll be covering more than 300 miles for a cause that means a huge amount to the group.

Three weeks to go... 😅

On 10th September, 14 riders with a combined age of 749 will set off on more than 300 miles of cycling to the Netherlands and back.

Yes, you read that correctly. 749 years between them.

The Queens Roundtable Cycling Group will once again be taking on the miles in support of St Gemma’s Hospice, a cause that has meant a huge amount to the group throughout more than 25 years of rides.

Training is underway. Knees are being assessed. Sudocrem supplies are being quietly increased.

And, most importantly, we’re hoping to raise as much as possible for St Gemma’s before we set off.

Our second full-house renovation and retrofit project in North Leeds has reached some major milestones over the past few weeks.

A huge effort from the Inspired Builds team has seen all of the existing stonework carefully repointed, giving both the front and rear elevations a real lift.

The new Passivhaus-standard windows are also now being installed throughout the property, with the ground floor complete and work continuing upstairs.

Inside, plastering is underway across the upper floors, which is really starting to bring the spaces together.

Over the next few weeks, the project will begin to make that big shift from building site to home, and we’re looking forward to sharing the next stage of progress.
