The Owl
Having recently retired, I decided to do something I have always wanted to do, but never had the time or courage to do - start painting. I started by watching line and wash tutorials on YouTube and, having watched some of these, decided to combine this with another favourite pastime of visiting pubs. After my first few attempts, I realised that I wanted to develop my pictures to include a bit more detail and realism. My approach has been to start with a pencil drawing followed by a permanent fineliner, finished with watercolor. The Owl is one of a series of pubs in and around Farsley, Leeds, which subsequently expanded to other places and countries. I have found getting accurate colours and depth the most challenging, and with The Owl artwork I learned a valuable lesson - knowing when enough is enough and to stop adding details. With the picture almost complete, I tried to add a little more, and it did not work - hence the wobbly, wonky phone lines!! Know when to stop😁.
