Proud to preserve heritage šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§
Repairing and carrying out essential maintenance on heritage, period and listed properties goes so much deeper than a bit of basic carpentry and ā€œa lick of paintā€
For me, I take great pride not only in my work, but in having the opportunity to preserve some truly incredible buildings, so that future generations may also enjoy them
Buildings like this have rich history, often incredible backstories and at very least interesting and intriguing features, whose craftsmanship stands out against that of todayā€™s

Repair time āœØ
Hereā€™s a video of a recent job weā€™ve competed, including extensive resin and timber repairs
Im sure a lot of people will think ā€œsurely itā€™s easier to replace it rather than spend all this time and effort repairing a 25 year old conservatoryā€- but what if I told you we can repair it and refinish it for a fraction of the cost and with minimal disruption?
Genuinely pleased with how this one turned out!

Appearances are not always what they seem šŸ‘€
Today we started a new project in The Cotswolds, on what has to be one of the most beautiful houses Iā€™ve ever had the pleasure of working at
Restorative works to 37 window and door units of this 18th century listed property over the next few weeks will keep us busy and from a first glance you could be forgiven for thinking that there would be minimal prep
HOWEVERā€¦ take a look at the very first window I started on in slide 2ā€¦
Tennis ball sized chunks of 2 part filler, silicone, and pretty much anything you could not want to be holding these together, is (including my pet hate- 2part used for bead instead of putty šŸ˜¤)
This is a case in point of a lesson that Iā€™ve learned over nearly 2 decades in this industry- donā€™t rush the initial site visit and inspection
Luckily weā€™re well prepared to take all the time and material allowances within our costing to restore the units to a level that the property deserves and not just do (what aptly calls) ā€œa lipstick jobā€ of covering over the underlying issues
This is the first stage of prep works, before we have even started with the die grinder! Plenty of to follow!
Sun in the sky and jobs like this make feel privileged to do the job I do! šŸ’™

šŸŽ‰ Its competition time šŸŽ‰
Iā€™m partnering with Dulux and Nooku to help raise awareness of the negative impact of VOCs, the solvents that traditionally go into paint products. The Nooku monitors provide real-time feedback on indoor air quality, helping to make the invisible visible.

To win your own Nooku device, just post a photo of you using any Dulux Trade 99.9% VOC-free paint with the hashtag to enter the draw.
Competition closes on 31st May. One entry per person.

At work, we should feel assured that the products weā€™re using are not detrimental to our heath or the health of our clients. Thatā€™s why Iā€™m partnering with Dulux and nooku ā€“ to demonstrate the measurable difference of choosing 99.9% VOC free and water-based ranges.

The nooku monitor provides real-time feedback on indoor air quality, helping to monitor whatā€™s happening in the air around you. Using the nooku means I can see how choosing low-VOC and water-based paints not only transforms a space but also helps me make more sustainable choices.

God loves a trier šŸ™„
On a serious note, just remember when getting quotes from tradespeople- ā€œrounding downā€ isnā€™t feasible in most situations, the numbers reflect man hours and materials
Is there any industry that people expect such heavy discounts on services provided?

Better late than never! šŸ˜…
One thing im grateful for as I approach *2 DECADES* in the trade, is that I learned my craft off ā€œold school tradesmenā€
Yes, drinking copious amounts of tea and smoking similar amounts of f**s also came into play, but one thing I now understand and am grateful for is the LACK of praise
No matter how good I thought Iā€™d done a job, I would never get praise from Ed and I think now that pushed me to do better and better and try and impress him
Hereā€™s a video from 2018 (that I have cherished!) of the 1st bit of praise I ever got for my wallpaper hanging (9 years after I had started working with ed, and by which time, I was now subbing work to my former foreman), an occasion that meant so much that I had to capture it on film
Sometimes you donā€™t understand and/or appreciate things until you look back with a different perspective šŸ’™
