Last of the Ptarmigan malting barley uplifted from the farm on Friday, which gave us the space to be able to clear the last of the straw bales and get them inside on Saturday.
So l suppose that’s Harvest 26 technically over !

Cultivating a field of barley stubble and a field of chopped wheat straw stubble at the end of last week for sowing cover crop.
One of the fields has suffered flooding from the river bursting its banks on several occasions in the last few years so we felt it important to sow something over the winter which should help keep the soil together if the worst happens.
A mix of Forage Rye (60%) & Vetch (40%) was sown and rolled in on Saturday.
We also received a very kind demonstration of a Horsch Joker 5RT cultivator from Scot Agri last week. It was tried out on some barley stubbles & some chopped wheat straw stubbles. An impressive machine which produced some very nice results.

Finished up the combining part of Harvest ‘26 last night in a field of LG Spotlight wheat.
A hectic few days at the end of the week also included a very kind demonstration by Sellars Agriculture, of a Claas Lexion 7500 combine with a 30ft Claas Convio header…a very impressive bit of kit !

Combining 3 fields of Ptarmigan...a new variety for us grown on a trial. Plenty of grain, plenty of straw & a nice looking barley too...so time will tell !

Better going over Saturday & Sunday and managed to get quite a bit done. All OSR harvested so far between 10.5 and 12.5% moisture.

Bees, bees...& more bees !
Certainly not the best take of Phacelia on the two end-rigs sown back in May, probably due mainly to the long dry spell.
However the amount of bees & other insects on and amongst it is incredible.

A couple of days this week cutting, baling & wrapping EFA grass for silage.
Yielded very well despite having no spring fertiliser.
Many thanks to W Davidson&Sons, Stewart Hay & Stuart Souter for all their help in getting things over the line to get the job finished. Very much appreciated.

Sowing grass seed for a customer at Invermark yesterday, right at the top of the Glenesk road In very dry, dusty & hot conditions.
Took a 15 minute walk from the field up to Loch Lee which was absolutely deserted but looked amazing in the late afternoon sun.
