Another unusual one. This is a “Learning Tower”. It’s an adjustable tower (age / height adjustable) that your child can safely stand in at worktop height. Simply move the footplate to the desired level, pop them in and make safe with the back rail so they can help cook, bake make play dough or just watch, and you just watch them soak up all that learning. I first saw one made by a good friend for his grandson. This one has a through tenon, and tapered sliding dovetail joints to hold the back in place. It is made of maple finished in hard-wax oil.

I was presented with a small puzzle which had been in the persons family for years. After a review of a similar project on the BBC “The Repair Shop” program, the clean up and assembly began. Trying to seal the barrel meant the original 1970’s finish was history. However, it came out looking very authentic. Original oak staves and ends with steel bands finished with a light waxing.

Victorian benches can be surprising but tough to deal with. Original paint hid the cast iron detail and some oak timber. Once stripped, primer and spray paint revealed the iron detail and oiled oak (original and new) made the whole bench pop.
