💦 No wonder the water was taking so long to drain away! 👀

We spotted this drainage outlet while working at a customer’s property recently, and just look how small that opening is!

During heavy rainfall, water can actually come back up through this drain instead of flowing away properly.

With such a narrow opening, it wouldn’t take much to restrict the flow of water.

It’s something many homeowners probably wouldn’t think to check, but having clear, properly functioning drainage is just as important as keeping your gutters clear!

🏡 If you notice water pooling around your property or coming back up through your drains during heavy rain, it’s worth getting it checked.

You sweep the patio and everything looks tidy… then little clumps of moss appear again.

Before blaming the lawn, have a look up 👀

Moss can loosen from a roof and end up on paths, patios and in gutters. What you see on the ground may be only part of the picture.

It doesn’t automatically mean your roof is damaged or needs replacing. It’s simply a reason to take a closer look and understand what’s happening.

Start with a photo from the ground using your phone’s zoom. Leave the climbing to someone with suitable access equipment.

⚠️ A little reminder to homeowners when booking driveway cleaning!

I came across this post and honestly felt so sorry for the homeowner. It’s frustrating to see people spending their hard-earned money on work that hasn’t lived up to what they were promised.

I thought I’d share it because there are a few things worth knowing before getting your driveway cleaned.

Firstly, please don’t feel pressured into agreeing to work from someone who knocks on your door. I’m sure plenty of genuine tradespeople still find work this way, but you should always feel comfortable taking some time to think about it and doing a little research first.

🧱 Something else worth knowing about block paving…

If you’re having your driveway cleaned and sealed, there’s a process that should be followed.

The driveway needs to be thoroughly cleaned, left to dry properly, and then the joints should be filled with kiln-dried sand BEFORE applying a suitable sealer.

In this case, the homeowner mentioned having to re-sand the driveway themselves afterwards, which is a shame, especially when they’ve paid someone to do the job!

🌱 And as for guaranteeing no w**ds for two years…

I’d be very cautious of promises like this! A good-quality sealer can help reduce w**d growth, but it doesn’t mean w**ds can never return. Seeds can still settle on top of the paving and start growing.

A few things I’d always recommend:

✅ Check reviews and previous work.
✅ Get a written quote explaining exactly what’s included.
✅ Ask questions about the cleaning process, especially if sealing is involved.
✅ Make sure any guarantees are explained in writing.
✅ Don’t feel rushed into making a decision.

And remember, the cheapest quote isn’t always the cheapest in the long run.

It’s not about scaring anyone away from doorstep traders or suggesting they’re all dishonest. It’s simply about knowing what you’re paying for and making sure the work is done properly.

That’s not new tarmac 👀

This driveway had become faded and tired over time, but instead of ripping it all up and starting again, we were able to restore the existing tarmac.

Where needed, we can also carry out small tarmac repairs and fill damaged areas or holes before applying the restoration treatment, helping to improve both the appearance and condition of the surface.

The treatment then restores that deep black finish while sealing and protecting the existing tarmac from further weathering.

You know that little waterfall that appears above the front door when it rains?

It’s easy to ignore once the weather dries up. But next time it happens, take a moment to notice where the water is coming from.

Is it spilling over the gutter’s edge? Dripping from a joint? Or running down the wall?

Those details help work out what needs attention. Overflowing water can mean a blockage but a leaking joint or an alignment problem can need a different fix.

A short video taken safely from the ground can be surprisingly useful.
