Great to see one of our own continuing to progress 👏

A big well done to Ian Gillies on recently achieving his Mobile Crane certification.

Ian has been with us just over three years, coming from a quarry background with a solid understanding of heavy machinery. From day one, he took to lifting operations naturally and has become a key part of the team.
He now plays a big role in our specialist lifting operations, particularly with our spider cranes, as well as operating our HIAB. A very versatile operator and someone we can rely on.

This latest qualification is another step forward and gives us greater flexibility as we move into a busy period, helping cover crane operations through holidays and peak demand.

Well done Ian and thanks for your continued hard work and commitment. It doesn’t go unnoticed. 👏🏼

We were back working with campionhomes in Balmullo, helping remove a site sales cabin.

Normally we are on site with them on a CPA hire basis, but this one needed a bit more thought and moved over to a contract lift.

The cabin had been altered, so the standard lifting points were not an option. We rigged it using our own spreader beams to make sure the lift was carried out safely and under control. It is jobs like these where planning and experience really come into play.

Also, not a bad pairing… our Liebherr LTM1090 and Kev from Williamson’s Scania looking the part. 😮‍💨 (thanks for the pictures Kev!)

🥳 One year of Matt “Beardy” Bremner 🥳

Beardy joined us from a low loader background with a clear goal of moving into crane operations, and he’s worked hard from day one to achieve that. In autumn 2025 he gained both his CPCS Slinger Signaller and Mobile Crane Operator qualifications, passing with flying colours.

Since then, with time in the seat, Beardy has developed into a safe, steady and efficient operator. He’s just as capable supporting on the hooks as he is operating, and his transport experience continues to add value to the wider team.

He’s settled in well and reflects the standards and approach we’re known for as a business.
Thanks for your efforts over the past year, Matt. We look forward to seeing your continued development. 👏🏼

We have shared this one from Industrial Group as it is a good example of the type of work they get involved in.

On this job, we supported on the lifting side of a caustic tank removal, working alongside the wider Industrial Group team delivering the full package.

These are the sorts of projects we really enjoy being part of, proper planning, teamwork, and getting the job done right.

Good progress up in Pitlochry on one of our current steel erecting projects.

We’re currently working through around 120 tonnes of steel plus cold rolled , and it’s coming together well on site. 👏🏼

During a site visit, we took a moment to celebrate one of our own…

Happy Birthday to Derek 🥳

Derek is our longest serving member of the team (25 years!) and brings a level of knowledge and experience in steel erecting that is hard to match. He’s played a key role in shaping what our steel erecting service is today and continues to lead from the front on projects like this.

If there’s a problem on site, Derek will usually find it… and then sort it. That’s just the way he works. Not one to stand back, always happy to get stuck in and get the job done.
A proper grafter and a big part of the Johnston Rigging story.

A recent job in Perth saw us supporting the load out of decommissioned wind turbine components.

We were appointed to deliver a full contract lift, including site visit by our Appointed Person, followed by RAMS and lifting plan issued for review and acceptance prior to works starting.
On the day, everything ran as planned. Components were lifted, loaded onto transport, secured and turned around efficiently with no issues.

For this job we used our Liebherr LTM 1090-4.2 (90 tonne), which is settling into the fleet really well and proving to be a solid, reliable crane for this type of work.

👷👷🏻‍♀️ Proud of Our People👷🏻‍♀️👷

Back in December we held a team day that kick started our focus for 2026.
We spent the morning exploring what makes a great team and looking at the behaviours we want to stop, start and continue. The honesty and input from everyone was excellent.
The aim was simple and important. We wanted a space where people could share ideas, frustrations and suggestions openly. That conversation is still driving positive change across the business, including stronger communication, better teamwork and a more supportive environment.

After all the talking and planning, we swapped flipcharts for shotguns and finished the day with some clay shooting fun. 🤪

Here’s to continuing to better ourselves as a team 💪🏼
