I love autumn, lots of plants which you never notice for most of the year, suddenly burst into colour and become the stars of the garden. Everything changes daily so make sure you spend as much time as possible in your garden. Many thanks to all our wonderful visitors for supporting our two charities, Beth's Sunflowers and The Adam Greathead Award.

Even as we head into October, John's Garden is is still bursting with colour. Constant deadheading and cutting back throughout summer has paid off, many herbaceous plants and flowering shrubs are having a second or third flourish.

Autumn is the season of mellow fruitfulness and this year hasn’t disappointed. We have worked hard to increase autumn interest in our garden: fruit, flowers and foliage. Never think there is nothing to see in the garden at this time of year. We are spending lots of time dead heading, this extends the flowering. The garden is brimming with wildlife, insects, birds, hedgehogs and in the evening the bats come out to play. Gardeners have to be the luckiest people in the world! 3) I bought this tree as Sorbus huphensis ‘Rosea' but I am told it is Sorbus pseudohupehensis 'Pink Pagoda'.

8) Solidago rugosa ‘Fireworks’, if my memory holds true, I was originally given this plant by Percy Picton as a hybrid between solidago and aster.

10) Cotinus ‘Grace’ A Peter Dummer hybrid between C. obovatus and C. coggygria.
11) Cotinus coggygria Golden Spirit.
12) Cotinus 'Ruby Glow’ bred by Alan Postill a new hybrid between C. ‘Grace’ and C. coggygria.
13 Cotinus Dusky Maiden A recent compact introduction bred by Peter Moore. C. szechuanensis x C. coggygria.
14) The fruit of Cornus kousa var. chinensis Mandarin Jewel.
