We were recently contacted by a new homeowner who wanted to upgrade their security for their new forever home.
When they received the keys they had a standard cylinder in the front door and an old 5 lever lock in the back door.
After giving the new homeowner some options we fitted a new a new APECS AP 3* cylinder in the front, these are filled with security features, making them anti pick, anti drill and anti bump, as well as having a lockdown mode should anyone try to snap the lock. These not only come with a 10 year manufacturer warranty, but also a £2500 break in guarantee!
On the rear door we removed the old sash lock which had very little in the way of security features, with a brand new British Standard (BS3621) sash lock, and just to be a bit more secure we fitted a British Standard deadlock which works with the same key, two locks, twice as secure, but just one key!
We cannot recommend enough how important it is that you change any locks to a new home. You can never be certain who the previous occupant gave a key to - family members? (ex)partners? then gardener? a handyman? If you change the locks, you can control who has access to your home, also it is an ideal opportunity to upgrade the security of your family home!
