Life on the Edge has won an award!

South Devon National Landscape has been recognised with a prestigious national Bees’ Needs Award in the Communities category for its groundbreaking Life on the Edge project!

This award celebrates its support of pollinators and creation of thriving habitats across South Devon!

Our Project Manager Rob and Finance Officer Emma were delighted to accept the award at RHS Wisely that was presented by Mary Creagh, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)‘s Minister for Nature.

This achievement reflects the dedication of our partners, volunteers, landowners and local communities who have worked so hard to restore the landscape for pollinators!

I was dreading trying my hand at lawn bowls in front of a crowd of experts, but it turns out I didn't disgrace myself! And it was way more fun than I'd expected.

Thank you to everyone at St Mary's Brixham Bowls Club for hosting me so well, I had a really enjoyable afternoon. And congratulations on reaching your 85th anniversary. Thank you also to Club President Tug Wilson, for your expert coaching.

Bowls has a reputation as a sport for older people, but St Mary's are keen to welcome in younger members, and are happy to show the ropes to anyone who wants to give this sport a try.

The club plays in several leagues and has an all-year round programme to keep people involved socially and as active players. Several members told me how important the club is for them, being part of a community, making new friends, staying active and keeping loneliness at bay.

It's a beautiful place to play, with great views over Brixham, so do go along if you fancy something new!
