…this is what we do ➡️

Every garden starts with an idea.
How it should feel.
How it will be used.
What will work with the house, the landscape and the people who live there.
Good garden design is about bringing all of those things together.

From the structure of the garden to the finer details, our landscaping teams turn the design into something real.

Getting the foundations right matters.

The planting is what brings a garden to life.
We choose plants, not only for their colour, texture and seasonal interest, but also for where they are going to thrive.

Our gardens are facing hotter, drier summers.
Thoughtful irrigation and water management can help plants establish, reduce waste and make gardens more resilient to the changing climate.

A beautiful garden needs looking after.
Our maintenance team of RHS-trained gardeners work with gardens throughout the seasons, keeping them healthy, productive and looking their best.

Design. Build. Plant. Protect. Maintain.

For us, a garden is never simply a finished project.
It’s about bringing the original vision to life, choosing the right plants, building it well, protecting it from changing conditions, and continuing to care for it as it grows and evolves.

From the first idea to the ongoing care, we are there for every stage.🌱

Now is a great time to start thinking about autumn and winter window box planting… cyclamen, ivy, heuchera and grasses can give you months of colour and structure. They soften brickwork and stone, add colour and interest to windows, and can make even a simple entrance feel much more considered.

💕 A few things that have caught our eye lately👀.

From plants thriving in British summers to beautiful materials, inspiring gardens and the small details that make an outdoor space feel truly considered.

A glimpse into what’s inspiring us at Charles H***e L&GS…

🐝 This summer we have been loving the Verbena Bonariensis. Tall, elegant and excellent for bees and butterflies, this plant works particularly well woven through grasses and perennial planting, and once established, is fairly hardy in dry weather.

Our tip: don’t be to tidy with it! Allow it to self-seed naturally for a softer, more established look.

👀 Metal edging has long been one of our favourite garden details. Often overlooked, it creates crisp, clean lines between lawns, planting areas and pathways, while giving gardens a modern, polished look.

It’s extremely durable, low-maintenance and helps keep gravel, soil and planting where they belong, meaning cleaner edges and less upkeep over time.

Our metal edging is all bespoke, handmade by our local metal workshop, ensuring exceptional quality and durability.

For us, it’s the perfect combination of function, longevity and versatility.

🧱 There is something particularly special about Acid-Etched Limestone and it seems to be having a moment! With its warm tones, tactile finish and natural character, it creates the kind of timeless elegance we love in a garden, while offering the durability and practicality needed for outdoor spaces.

Albeit slightly more on the pricey side, we feel this great natural product is worth every penny. The subtle texture and understated character of the limestone create a refined finish that sits effortlessly within both contemporary and traditional garden designs.

💦 During this hot weather, we are making sure our bug and bird baths are topped up with fresh water regularly.

A simple terracotta saucer placed on the ground, with a few stones and some gravel, makes a lovely little drinking spot for all kinds of wildlife. The stones and gravel provide safe, shallow areas for insects, birds and other small creatures to drink without the risk of falling into deeper water.

It’s a small thing, but during a heatwave, provi

🌱 After
Designed by Laura Burt a Japanese-themed garden, with minimal maintenance, whilst a maintaining a tranquil and peaceful environment in a busy part of Oxford. Stepping stones were repurposed from existing paving slabs.

We removed the existing AstroTurf, paving and rubble left by the developers to clear the space and leave blank canvas, ready for the build.
