Today, Sunday 12th July 2015, Mike Smith Guitar Academy, celebrated its tribute to the 30th Anniversary of Live Aid, entitled'Remembering Live Aid' which took place Midlands Safari Park. The show consisted of my student base playing 85 tracks from the original 'Live Aid' show, which included, songs from; Status Quo, Bowie, Spandu Ballet, Sade, Queen, Dire Straits, Sting, U2 and countless others. The purpose of the tribute was to raise awareness of the Ebola crises affecting West Africa and raising monies for the Band Aid Trust. The complete total raised was around £14,000

The event was the culmination of 7 months hard graft, preparing tracks, teaching them, and obviously organising the event. The show was a superb success and demonstrated the power of music.

I plan to sort out a collection of photos from the show and post them here.

Well the heat is well up here in the academy. It's certainly not that easy to keep up the practice either. Maybe swat or sweat up on the odd bits of theory.

Please Note
Remember do keep your guitars out of direct sunlight and do try to leave them in as cool a place as possible.

Well it's that time of year once again, when the days are shorter and the nights are longer. The smell of flickering candles fill the air, and the warmth and glow of Christmas decorations light the winter sky.

Christmas is that magical time of the year when we can enjoy the comfort of friends and family. But we should also give thought to those amongst us that will be homeless this Christmas or have recently lost close ones.

As the Winter Solstice sun sinks in the winter sky, may I take this moment to wish you a magical, joyful and relaxing Christmas 2025.

Finally, all the very best for a prosperous and healthy New Year.

The tickets for the MSGA Christmas Show are now sold out. Here's to a great night, 4 weeks tonight!

Edit. This post seems to have generated loads of comments saying people not associated with MSGA have tickets for sale - total scam as, the tickets are simply reserved and have to come direct through myself at the academy!
