🚨Public Service Announcement 🚨
I’ve seen so many online adverts recently for “revolutionary” air conditioning units that claim to be:
❄️Plug-in only (no installation)
❄️No exhaust hose
❄️No outdoor unit
❄️No refrigerant gas
❄️Incredibly cheap to run (“the same as a laptop”)
❄️On special offer for around £140 with a money-back guarantee
Please don’t be fooled. These products are generally not true air conditioners — they are essentially glorified fans.
Why❓
Because cooling a room requires heat to be removed from the room and rejected elsewhere. That’s not an opinion — it’s basic physics and the laws of thermodynamics.
A genuine air conditioning system must have a way to get rid of the heat, whether that’s through:
❄️An outdoor condenser unit (split system)
❄️An exhaust hose vented outside (portable AC)
❄️Another engineered heat-rejection system
If a device claims to cool a whole room without any of these, be very sceptical.
🧐 If someone had genuinely invented a cheap, hose-free, ultra-efficient air conditioner, companies such as Mitsubishi , Daikin, Panasonic, and even Dyson would be all over it. ⚡️Governments and environmental agencies would be promoting it as a major energy-saving breakthrough.
💸 So is £140 worth a punt because it has a money-back guarantee?
In my opinion: No. ❌
The guarantee may cover whether the unit powers on — not whether it performs the miraculous cooling implied by the advert.
❄️IF IT LOOKS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE …. IT PROBABLY IS!! ❄️
Stay cool — and save your money for a proper solution if you genuinely need air conditioning.
