Wasn’t expecting as colder start this morning, but the weather did turn out nice in the end! Today, I tidied borders ready for winter, cleared lots of autumn leaves, trimmed a Salix tree and some stripy lawn cuts.

Jobs to do in the garden in October.

October is already upon us! This brings with it certain tasks to do in the garden. October is a beautiful month with blue sky’s and the first frosts.

Listed below are particular jobs to do around the garden this month. If you would like any of these done during the regular maintenance sessions please let us know.

• Lift and divide overcrowded perennials whilst the soil is still warm.

• Empty spent summer pots and hanging baskets and compost the plants.

• Plant evergreen shrubs and conifer hedges.

• Cut fruited stems of blackberries and raspberries down to the ground.

• Rake up leaves from lawns, borders, paths and driveways.

• Apply autumn lawn feed to help the grass after the stresses of summer.

• Spike compacted lawns to improve drainage.

• Gather up canes and plant supports and store indoors.

• Lift gladioli and dahlia corns and store them.

• Cut back perennial plants that have died down.

• Tidy borders and add mulch to insulate plants for winter.

• A last mow can be done this month ready for winter.

• Scarify lawns to get rid of from thatch and repair dead patches.

• With some dry time, paint sheds and fences.

•Give evergreen hedges a final cut to keep them looking neat during winter.

•Plant bulbs in preparation for spring.

Another busy day with a wet 🌧️ start! Today I renovated another lawn both the front and back. I scarified, over seeded and top dressed it. I gave a first cut to a lawn which I turfed last month and some more stripy lawn mows.
