Outriggers do more than widen the footprint of a machine. They help create a stable working platform by transferring loads from the chassis through the outrigger feet and into the ground.

Here's the part that surprises people. According to IPAF's Spread the Load campaign, up to 80% of a machine's weight can rest on one outrigger as the boom rotates over it. That makes ground conditions, outrigger positioning and load distribution critical to a safe setup.

Spreader plates can help distribute the load over a larger area, particularly where ground conditions require additional support. They need to be suitable for the ground and the loads involved.

Before operating, assess the ground, position the outriggers correctly, use suitable spreader plates where required and always follow the operator's manual.

Every KA14 starts here, on the workshop floor at CPL in Kettering.

Our booms and subframes are built and tested here in Northamptonshire, giving us greater control over the build process and allowing us to support our customers with the knowledge and expertise of the people who built their machine.

With a 14.4m working height, 240kg basket capacity and the ability to be driven on a standard B+E licence, the KA14 is built to deliver versatility across a range of applications.

One week to go until FutureScape 2026!

We will be exhibiting at FutureScape next week, taking place on 13-14 October at Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre.

That’s a wrap on APF 2026!🌲

A huge thank you to everyone who visited the Cumberland Platforms Ltd stand over the weekend. It was great to meet so many people, catch up with customers and make some great new connections.

Mark, Max, Anna and Anna Marie were at the show, showcasing the KA14 and ATAT Tipper and speaking to visitors throughout the event.

We also had the opportunity to give visitors a first-hand experience of the KA14, with some getting the chance to see APF from above and experience the platform at working height.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, had a chat and took the time to see what we had on display. We really enjoyed being part of APF 2026 and look forward to seeing many of you again soon.

What a fantastic first day at APF!🌲

We’ve had a great start to the show at Ragley Estate, with plenty of visitors coming to the CPL stand to see our equipment in action and meet the team.

It has been great to showcase the brand-new KA14 alongside the ATAT tipper and a selection of Almac tracked machines, and to speak with arborists, tree-care professionals, landscapers and contractors about the challenges they face and the equipment they need.

There is still plenty of time to come and see us over the next few days. You can find us at Stand 1440–1455, where you can get hands-on with the equipment and speak to the CPL team.

A great two days at the National Grid Electricity Distribution South Wales SHE Conference⚡

We were pleased to join National Grid Electricity Distribution in Swansea on 14-15 September for their South Wales SHE Conference, with our Commercial Manager, Anna Ramsden, attending the event and showcasing the KA14 to teams across the business.

It was particularly valuable to get the KA14 in front of the people who will be using it in the field and hear feedback from the different NGED teams, and we’re delighted that the KA14 will be joining the National Grid fleet from October, marking an exciting next step for the machine and our relationship with NGED.

A huge thank you to National Grid Electricity Distribution for having us and to everyone who took the time to come and see the KA14, ask questions and share their feedback with us.

Tight street, no room to swing outriggers out, clock ticking. Sound familiar? 🤔

Setting up a platform shouldn't be half the job. Every minute spent extending outriggers is a minute not working, especially on street after street of council or telecoms work.

That's the whole point of the KL21B. No outriggers needed, so you're up and working the second you're parked. One person can operate it solo, it's built compact enough for the tightest urban streets, and it still delivers 11.4m working height with 6.8m outreach.

Councils, telecoms, street lighting, CCTV, wherever access is the real challenge, this is the platform that just gets on with it.
