📍 Kendal & The Lakes Painting & Decorating has been a part of Ryan's family for just over 40 years, with Ryan first learning the trade from his Dad 18 years ago over in the U.K. In 2013 Ryan packed up his painting gear and moved over to Queenstown to start a new life for himself, where he now lives with his ECE Teacher wife Rachael and new baby son Felix. ver the last eight years Ryan has worked for a local high-end painter Jeremy Ross Painters Ltd. Ryan loved his time working for Jeremy because of his professionalism, high standards, and a very good eye for detail. Ryan say's Jeremy has brought him a great amount of value and a better understanding of how the New Zealanders do things, which can be quite different to the hills of the Lake District in sunny old England. But the time has come for Ryan to create his own successful business here in Queenstown. Carty Painting will operate with strong values aimed at understanding and serving client needs. To Ryan, every new project means a new relationship. Ryan prides himself on his friendly approachability, solid work ethic, and a great understanding and eye for detail when it comes to the Painting & Decorating industry.

So I’ve set up ASK RYAN.

I get so many messages that unfortunately I can’t get through them all, so this is a way of making sure your question definitely gets answered.

For £5, you can send me your painting or decorating question and upload photos if you want to show me exactly what you’re dealing with.

I’ll personally answer it and give you my advice based on my experience as a professional decorator.

FULL-LENGTH WINDOWSILL TUTORIAL 👇

Taking an old, tired windowsill back to a clean, durable finish.

My process:

• Remove old silicone & caulk
• Scrape out the corners
• Sand thoroughly
• Fill — I use 2-pack to create a crisp, strong corner
• Seal with Gardz
• Undercoat sill
• Light check — fill, sand & spot-prime where needed
• Final sand
• 2 full coats of finish

Oil-based gloss → water-based satin

Save this one if your window sills need bringing back to life. ✌️

I’m still pretty new to this world of social media.

When I started sharing my work, it was simply because I wanted to show DIYers what actually goes into decorating and help them achieve a professional finish in their own homes.

I honestly didn’t realise that sharing it would also bring a fair bit of abuse along the way. 😂

I’m not claiming to be the best decorator, and I’m certainly not saying my way is the only way. Different decorators, different methods, different houses and different countries.

I just enjoy making the videos, sharing what I’ve learnt and hopefully helping people along the way.

The positive comments make it all worthwhile. ❤️

And a few negative comments aren’t going to stop me, if anything, they fuel me. 😂💪
