🚐 3 keys supplied… but only 1 that actually works! 🤦‍♂️

Just been out to a Mercedes Sprinter that the customer had recently bought. He was handed 3 keys and told he had spares.

Only problem? The so-called spare keys aren't even for his van!

We see this quite a lot, especially with push-button start vehicles. All the keys get handed over together, everyone assumes they're correct, and nobody actually tests them individually.

Until you need a spare… and discover you've been carrying around a very expensive bit of useless plastic! This can have a huge effect, especially if the van is used for work.

If you've bought a van or car with multiple keys, make sure you test each of them before leaving the forecourt.

🚗🔑 When a used car dealer loses the keys to nearly ALL their cars… 😂

It’s been a busy few days!

A used car dealer got in touch after discovering they were missing keys for pretty much half the forecourt… well, nearly all of it! 🤦‍♂️😂

Most of them are now sorted, with new keys programmed and cars back in business. ✅🔑

Still got a couple left to do, so I’m not quite out of the woods yet! 😂

The trader now has a guarantee on all the keys we've sorted, and the knowledge that they can be sold now!

Many of the jobs that we complete are only successful because of the levels of knowledge, skill and experience that we have.

Most can only be done because we have invested heavily into equipment and in staying on top of latest technology.

This one though..... not so much.

PSA: if you change the battery in your car key, take the little sticker off. We can provide the training in how to do this if needed 🤣🤣🤣

🚐 This particular Renault identifies as a Vauxhall Vivaro… apparently! 😂 But we don't discriminate - happy to help whenever we can!

The customer had been to a well-known national chain (let’s just say it rhymes with Simpsons 😉) who claim to do car keys… but don’t necessarily invest in the right equipment to actually do the job properly.

The result? One key, one van, and a whole lot of head-scratching! 🤣

Luckily, they called us.

With the right equipment and a lot of know-how, we got the van sorted and programmed a second key.

✅ Van starts
✅ Both keys working
✅ Customer happy
✅ Renault still pretending to be a Vauxhall 😂

And just like that… this vehicle now has TWO keys! 🔑🔑

This was a call to a 2013 Renault Clio with an intermittent starting problem

This is a classic key card issue! 🔑

The remote was happily locking and unlocking the car, but every now and again the car simply wouldn’t start.

After testing the card, I couldn’t get a reliable read from the transponder — not ideal when the car needs to recognise the key before it’ll fire into life!

A new key card was programmed… and bingo! 🎉

The Clio rattled into life and was back on the road. 🤣

These Renault key cards certainly have a reputation for giving up when you least expect it!

If your Renault is becoming intermittent, refusing to start, or giving you trouble with the key card, don’t wait until you're completely stranded.

Modern car keys can fail without warning. Remember the "good old days" where you all you needed was a blade that turned in the lock, then turned in the ignition? (Or if you weren't that posh, you had a key for the door lock AND a different key for the ignition)

Modern keys aren't like that. They include a small battery, a circuit board with a microchip and radio transmitter, an internal antenna coil, tactile buttons, an immobiliser transponder chip, and hopefully, an emergency blade.

This could mean that one minute you're fine, the next “Key not detected.”

Best way to avoid this is by always having a spare available.

This was an "all keys lost" situatuion for a 2005 Honda Jazz.

Without our services, people in this situation face lengthy delays while the vehicle is recovered and can sometimes even have delays while dealerships wait for keys to come in.

We're able to attend wherever the car is located; we're able to gain damage free entry (which may solve the problem if the keys are locked in the vehicle), and can then create keys even when there isn't a master to work from.
