We recently completed woodland clearance works for a high school in Northolt, Middlesex, which supports students with special educational needs.
The school has an adjoining woodland that is used as an outdoor learning space, giving students the opportunity to spend time in nature and supporting their sensory needs, wellbeing and development.
Over time, parts of the woodland had become difficult to access due to overgrown vegetation, while some structures had fallen into disrepair. There were also areas of concrete, debris and litter that were preventing the space from being used to its full potential.
Our team removed the unsafe structures, cleared the debris and redundant concrete, opened up overgrown pathways and removed dead and dangerous trees. We also created an area for a planned polytunnel, which will add another element to the school's outdoor learning provision.
We also left the woodchip produced during the works on site. The students will be able to use this to create and maintain woodland paths themselves, giving them a practical role in developing the space.
The woodland is now safer, more accessible and ready for its next stage, providing the school with a much more usable outdoor space for students to learn and enjoy 🌳🌳
