Smooth, textured, patterned or designed to replicate the character of other materials – the finish can completely change how a precast concrete element looks.

By using different moulds and form liners during manufacture, a wide variety of surface effects can be created, from subtle textures to bold architectural patterns.

We were delighted to welcome colleagues from across the SigmaRoc Group to Suffolk for a sales challenge focused on teamwork, customer insight and technical excellence. The three-day event brought together 25 commercial and technical leads from across the west region to share best practice and learn from each other.

During the visit, attendees were given a comprehensive tour of Poundfield’s operations, providing first-hand insight into our manufacturing processes, product range and concrete mix designs. They then worked in teams to develop innovative commercial strategies and present their ideas in an Apprentice-style sales pitch to a judging panel.

Everyone enjoyed the informative and engaging visit, which provided valuable learning opportunities and strengthened relationships across the region. We look forward to welcoming colleagues from across SigmaRoc back to Suffolk again soon.

We are looking forward to welcoming students from West Suffolk College to our factory in Creeting St Peter later this week to give them first-hand insight into careers in construction and precast concrete.

The visits will introduce 20 students to the safety procedures and high standards that guide every stage of our work. They will also hear how technical drawings and plans are
turned into precision-manufactured products for real construction projects before being given a guided tour of the factory to see our operations up close.

The events have been arranged following the success of a similar visit last year. We are really looking forward to inspiring the next generation of construction professionals!

When the demands are severe, you need a wall designed accordingly.

Shuttabloc is Poundfield's heaviest-duty retaining wall system.

When you look at a finished building, the floor beneath it probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind.

But before the walls go up, the rooms are kitted out and the keys are handed over, you need a solid foundation to build from.

Poundfield's beam and block flooring provides a robust, practical flooring solution for projects ranging from individual self-builds to larger housing and commercial developments.

It might eventually be hidden beneath everything that makes a building usable.

We are proud to have worked alongside the Canal and River Trust to support a major £50m restoration project at Toddbrook Reservoir in Derbyshire.

The rebuild work became necessary after unusually heavy rainfall hit the UK in summer 2019, damaging the auxiliary spillway and forcing the evacuation of 1,500 homes. To support the restoration, we supplied 12 precast concrete box culverts, a debris screen and two end sections, all of which were specially designed to be able to endure seismic events to add an extra layer of safety.

The huge rebuild has breathed new life into this important resource. Once the reservoir has been refilled, it will once again become a haven for recreation and wildlife, while the high-quality, durable precast concrete used in its construction will significantly increase its resilience, ensuring its longevity for years to come.

The bit nobody sees.

The finished structure gets all the attention.

But long before a precast culvert arrives on site, there's a lot happening behind the scenes.

From preparing the mould and positioning the reinforcement to casting, finishing and quality checks, every stage plays its part in producing the finished component.
It's the work most people will never see – particularly once the culvert is installed and doing its job underground.

But that's the thing about good precast engineering.

What you don't see matters just as much as what you do.

Concrete doesn’t have to be grey.

By using a coloured admixture in the concrete mix, we can produce precast components in a range of colours – helping the finished product complement its surroundings, meet an architectural brief, or simply create a more distinctive finish.

These examples show how changing the colour can transform the appearance of the same familiar material.

Because sometimes, the concrete is meant to be seen.
