You might remember this project that was completed last year. Very sadly James lost his fight with cancer last month. The mission was to get the house completed in the time that he had left and we did it to allow Carolina and Isla to have the home of dreams with some happy memories to boot. High praise to the team at Avoncrown Contractors, especially Chris Haste who makes being an architect almost stress free. It was an honour to have known James, a true gentleman! RIP James Ribbans 29.09.1965 - 24.07.2026

The beautiful Scottish treated larch ‘board on board’ cladding on the new house in Waldringfield is coming along well. The choice of Russwood as a supplier was partly led by the treatment called SiOO:x, it stabilises the timber meaning that you don’t get that horrid different colour change on each elevation over time, they will all stay the same this way. Note the close up photo showing the silver cavity barrier behind the cladding, this is an intumescent strip which in the event of a fire would expand to close the cavity - stopping the fire from reaching the roof.

This project to transform a formerly dated bungalow is really coming together! The sheet metal cladding has tested people but it’s going to be worth it. More praise being sent to Nick and the team Build Extend & Improve.

Epic is the first word that came to mind on returning to see this transformation of a semi-detached house in Essex near Tiptree (where they make jam). Really happy clients and when I asked whether I could post the photos here, they replied as follows:

'I have no problem with that.
You designed an awesome house .
I am so happy with finished article.
Would only say lovely things of you and your design'.

It's comments like that which make it all worth while.

Hope you like these before and after photos! Lots more projects in the pipeline. 😄

This house was given a real makeover and presented a few challenges along the way, but it looks stunning now! It's on the Market with estate agent Lark if you're looking for a great house, located in Bentley.

This soakaway is enormous, it measures 12x4m and looks like we're putting in a swimming pool. If that doesn't do the job, nothing will! 🙈

This 70s bungalow isn't recognizable any more. It is really taking shape with the sheet metal roof covering progressing really well along with the angled cladding details on the gables. We have also added a new first floor mater bedroom suite. Yet more great work from all at Build Extend & Improve.

Here we have a lovely three bay cart lodge under construction in Suffolk, upstairs there will be an annex. Due to soil conditions and a mighty Oak tree, we opted to build this on a reinforced raft. Lovely Oak posts details and a clever retaining wall behind using sleepers with steel UC posts! More great work from the team a Build Extend & Improve.

This great single storey kitchen extension transformation is completed. Such a happy client and doggie which is obviously the main goal with every project. On this project we used raised collar trusses on the roof which is a great way to raise the ceiling in an affordable way.

Class Q is a strange planning thing that causes mixed emotions, especially with planners I think. The low down is that you can convert an ex agricultural building into a dwelling using ‘prior approval’. There are strict rules to adhere to including no extensions. Anyway, here is one that we did! I think it’s one of the more successful examples but I am possibly biased! 😂
