Throwback to a few weeks ago in Ipswich — originally quoted for a crown reduction on this Acacia tree, but on arrival we found a large crack running 50% down the main stem.

That changed everything. Safety for the property owner came first, so the scope shifted from reduction to full removal. Once felled, the stump revealed the extent of the split, confirming it was the right call.

We’ve since eco‑plugged the stump to prevent regrowth — Acacia can be prolific — and will revisit in 5–6 weeks to check the root plate and decide whether to grind out.

Safety‑led decisions, done right.

Rotten decking removed at a rented property this week.
All the old hard ore and bricks were broken up and used as rubble fill, then compacted with a plate compactor to create a stable base.

We then poured 100 mm of concrete to give a safe, tidy, cost‑effective finish — exactly what was needed for a rental.
The new surface sits level with the existing brickwork, providing a solid base for any future upgrade like slab paving or a patio.

Straightforward, safe, and budget‑conscious.

Extension added to an existing driveway this week.
Due to the ground levels, we installed a 9‑inch retaining wall to hold back the soils and keep everything stable long‑term.

We then built a blockwork edge to match the original drive, keeping the finish seamless.
The new section has been infilled with 150 mm of concrete, reinforced with rebar mesh to ensure strength and durability — especially with vehicles potentially parking on it.

Solid, tidy, and built to last.

Ever wondered how we remove large trees without damaging anything below?

That’s where tree rigging comes in.

Our climbers use advanced rigging systems to control every piece as it comes down—no guesswork, no heavy impacts, just precision. It’s the difference between “hoping for the best” and professional arboriculture.

🌿 Ground Clearance Case Study – Preparing for Emergency Accommodation 🌿

We were recently called out to assist a client whose main residence suffered a sewage pump failure. With intrusive repair works needed on the foul system, the family required temporary accommodation on-site — meaning we had to create a safe, accessible space for a static home to be positioned.

To make this possible, our team carried out a full ground‑clearance operation. Using specialist machinery, we cut back dense vegetation, opened up the working area and cleared the ground ready for a hardcore base to be delivered. This preparation allows the static caravan to be safely sited while repairs to the main property take place.

Another example of Countryside Builders & Countryside Trees stepping in quickly to solve problems and keep clients moving forward. If you need help with ground clearance, access creation or site preparation, we’re here to help. 🌱💪

Stump Grinding
A sad hedge that had been hit hard by box blight. The client wanted the whole area cleared so it could be reseeded with grass.

Using our Predator 360 (13hp) pedestrian stump grinder, we ground out every stump to around 15 inches below ground level, then raked and cleared all remaining debris to leave a clean, level soil bed ready for new seed.

As always, the work was fully risk‑assessed — including shielding the full 180° in front of the grinder to prevent debris being thrown and to keep the public safe.

A tidy finish, a clean slate, and a garden ready for its next chapter.

Magnolia Tree Reduction

This mature Magnolia had developed a large crack in the main stem — most likely caused by an old lightning strike. Although the defect moved noticeably in strong winds, the tree sits in the quiet corner of a natural coppice-style garden with very little foot traffic.

Because of that, full removal wasn’t necessary.
But reducing the movement and wind‑load on the tree was.

We carried out a careful crown reduction, removing weighted sections from the upper canopy to take the strain off the cracked stem. This keeps the tree stable, reduces the risk of further damage and allows it to remain as valuable habitat for wildlife.

A great example of finding the right balance between safety and tree retention.

Poplar Repollard in Ipswich – Keeping Big Trees in Balance

Before ➡️ After
A great example of how proper tree management keeps large, fast‑growing species exactly where they belong.

This Poplar sits on a residential estate in Ipswich and, like most Poplars, it grows fast and carries a big, dense canopy. Over time it had begun blocking light from the garden — a common issue with this species.

Rather than removing the tree, we carried out a professional repollard, taking it back to its established pollard knuckles in line with BS3998 standards.

All brash was chipped and recycled into GreenFuel, and the site was left clean and tidy.

A well‑managed tree is a tree that can stay exactly where it is — safely, sustainably, and without dominating the space around it.

A mature ash collapsed into a wet ditch after years of heavy ivy growth hid serious decay. The ivy trapped moisture against the stem, rot set in, and with ash dieback already present, one windy day was all it took.

We cleared the fallen tree, processed the timber for the landowner and restored water flow by removing debris from the ditch and culvert.

If your trees are heavily covered in ivy, regular checks are essential — it can hide major defects. Give us a call if you want a free visual inspection.
