As the colder months approach, now is the perfect time to make sure your boiler is ready to keep your home warm and comfortable.
Here are a few simple steps to help prepare your boiler for winter:
1. Give your boiler a quick visual check – Look for any leaks, rust, or signs of corrosion. If anything looks odd, don’t ignore it.
2. Bleed your radiators – If some rooms aren’t warming up properly, trapped air might be to blame. Bleeding radiators is a quick fix that can make a big difference.
3. Check the boiler pressure – Most boilers sit happily between 1 and 2 bars. If the pressure’s too low or too high, you might need to top it up or release a bit (your boiler manual will show you how).
4. Test the thermostat – Turn the heating on and make sure the boiler responds. If there’s a delay or it doesn’t kick in, that could point to a fault.
5. Clear the area around your boiler – Your boiler needs ventilation. Make sure it’s not boxed in or surrounded by clutter.
6. Check your carbon monoxide alarm – This one’s really important. Press the test button to make sure the alarm is working properly.
7. Book a professional boiler service – Even if everything seems fine, it’s worth getting your boiler looked at by a professional once a year. Regular boiler servicing helps catch issues early and keeps your warranty valid.
