Knowing when to fertilise your lawn is key to keeping it green, thick and healthy all year round. ๐Ÿก

In Spring (March -May), your lawn is coming out of winter dormancy and needs a โ€œboostโ€ to kickstart its growth. This is the best time to use our Spring Rise 10-4-4 or 12-6-6 granular fertiliser, as they are higher in nitrogen which helps the grass green up quickly and grow strong after the colder months. ๐ŸŒฟ

As you move into the Summer (June -August), the goal shifts from rapid growth to maintenance. A balanced fertiliser such as 12-6-6 can still be used in lighter applications to keep the lawn healthy without overstimulating it, while products like Turfrise Feed, W**d and Moss killer are ideal for tackling weeds and moss at the same time as feeding. However, it is important not to overfeed your lawn during hot or dry spells, as they can stress, burn or scorch the grass. โ˜€

In Autumn (September - October), feeding becomes much more important as you prepare your lawn for Winter. This is when you should switch to your Autumn fertiliser like Autumn Rise 3-0-12 or a 2-12-12 granular fertiliser. These are lower in nitrogen and higher in potassium, which helps strengthen roots, improve disease resistance and protect the lawn through the cold, wet conditions. If moss is an issue, this is also a great time to apply products like 4-0-4 + Iron feed & Mosskiller, as this has the iron content to help control moss and toughen the grass.

For new lawns or freshly seeded areas, a pre -seeder such as 6-9-6 should be used to encourage strong root development and give the new grass the best start possible. During the Winter months (November - February), fertiliser isn't usually applied as grass growth slows down and nutrients won't be used properly. โ„๏ธ

Seeing mushrooms in your new turf? ๐Ÿ„ Don't worry - itโ€™s actually a sign of a healthy, natural environment!๐ŸŒฑ

When new turf is harvested, it contains organic material that naturally occurring fungi and bacteria need to break down. Those little brown toadstools are just a temporary part of that process. Once the fungus finishes its job, theyโ€™ll disappear on their own without any need for chemical treatments. Simply mow your lawn as usual to remove them and they should be gone within a few weeks!

Are you fed up of patchy grass? We've put together some steps for fixing those patches.

โœ… Rake or scarify the damaged turf, to allow the seed to have contact with the soil.
โœ… Scatter grass seed evenly over the area.
โœ… Water gently and keep the area moist.

Fertiliser is very important in order to keep to your lawn looking itโ€™s best!

When laying your new lawn, it is an ideal time to put fertiliser either underneath or on top of your lawn. Remember to use the recommended amount as too much fertiliser can result in a scorched/burnt lawn, as can fertilising in very hot or dry weather.

A lack of fertiliser can result in a common condition called red thread which results in the grass looking a red/pinky in colour.

Getting the right amount of turf for your lawn is easy!

Just measure the length and width of your space in metres and multiply them together to find your square metre total.

Donโ€™t forget to add an extra 5% for "wastage." This ensures you have plenty of material left over for those tricky cuts around corners and borders.

If you have any questions or need assistance with your measurements, our team is happy to help via phone (01467 622 555) or email ([email protected]).
