Knowing when to fertilise your lawn is key to keeping it green, thick and healthy all year round. ๐ก
In Spring (March -May), your lawn is coming out of winter dormancy and needs a โboostโ to kickstart its growth. This is the best time to use our Spring Rise 10-4-4 or 12-6-6 granular fertiliser, as they are higher in nitrogen which helps the grass green up quickly and grow strong after the colder months. ๐ฟ
As you move into the Summer (June -August), the goal shifts from rapid growth to maintenance. A balanced fertiliser such as 12-6-6 can still be used in lighter applications to keep the lawn healthy without overstimulating it, while products like Turfrise Feed, W**d and Moss killer are ideal for tackling weeds and moss at the same time as feeding. However, it is important not to overfeed your lawn during hot or dry spells, as they can stress, burn or scorch the grass. โ
In Autumn (September - October), feeding becomes much more important as you prepare your lawn for Winter. This is when you should switch to your Autumn fertiliser like Autumn Rise 3-0-12 or a 2-12-12 granular fertiliser. These are lower in nitrogen and higher in potassium, which helps strengthen roots, improve disease resistance and protect the lawn through the cold, wet conditions. If moss is an issue, this is also a great time to apply products like 4-0-4 + Iron feed & Mosskiller, as this has the iron content to help control moss and toughen the grass.
For new lawns or freshly seeded areas, a pre -seeder such as 6-9-6 should be used to encourage strong root development and give the new grass the best start possible. During the Winter months (November - February), fertiliser isn't usually applied as grass growth slows down and nutrients won't be used properly. โ๏ธ
